he Assistant Athletic Instructor is responsible for working with the head coach in all aspects of the respective sport. Must have an understanding of all pertinent NCAA rules governing the sport. Must have a commitment to the Division III philosophy and be able to work within the philosophy and mission of the athletic department.
The individual will be required to maintain positive relationships with the head coach, administration and team members, provide an atmosphere of learning and development in all areas assigned. The individual will be responsible for but not limited to recruitment and retention of qualified student-athletes, oversight of specific event areas as directed, skill development of student-athletes, fundraising, community service, alumni relations, social media, meet preparation, team decisions and actions at times when the head coach is not present. This could include practice sessions or team travel when head coach is not present. Students on athletic team receive academic credit from the college for their participation; therefore, the practice and game experiences take on a classroom setting in many respects. Assistant athletic instructors take part in seminars that enhance their teaching abilities. A look at the athletic mission statement indicates the extent to which teaching life skills and mentoring our athletes extends in the job. Other duties may include game/event administration, equipment room management, facilities scheduling and fitness center
Execute a plan to identify, attract and enroll quality student-athletes for the college under the direct supervision of the head coach of cross country, track and field
Assist the head coach will all aspects of team travel for tor all teams
Devise and administer daily, weekly, seasonal practice plans to allow for proper skill development and improvement for the overall team success
Gain a thorough understanding of all NCAA rules and regulations and administer the program within this framework
Monitor academic progress of student-athletes and direct them to the available resources when necessary
Maintain on-going communication with alumni and alumni event planning to include use of social media
Required Education, Experience, Technology Applications and Skills
A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent degree is preferred along with 3-5 years of previous coaching experience, excellent communication and organizational skills and a solid understanding of the NCAA rules and regulations and current,valid driver’s license.
Preferred Education, Experience, Technology Applications and Skills
Master’s degree, USTAF Level I or II Certification, high school or collegiate coaching experience.
