The Iowa State University Athletics Department is seeking a Director of Creative Services to lead the department’s creative processes and be responsible for designing high impact visual assets that strengthen brand awareness for the Cyclones. The Director serves as the overall visual brand manager for Iowa State Athletics and the Creative Services Unit will serve as the hub for the creation of graphics elements. Director will interface collaboratively with Athletics Communications, Marketing, Digital Media, Development, Ticket Office and 18 sports programs. The Director will serve a key role on the department’s brand management team (working strategically with other unit heads weekly to coordinate digital communications). This role has project-based leadership responsibilities and accountabilities, ensuring that design visions are carried out to the final product. The Creative Services unit will be a stand-alone department – reporting directly to the Senior Associate Athletics Director – and the candidate will have an opportunity to implement strategies which will improve quality control in the department with respect to managing the Iowa State Athletics visual brand identity. The candidate must conceptualize unique and cutting-edge concepts, provide cost estimates or procure bids, serve as a project manager from conception to completion, train and supervise student/intern designers, keep current on industry trends and demonstrate an ability to grasp client requests, respond to feedback, manage competing demands, prioritize projects and meet deadlines to client satisfaction. Must be able to develop graphic elements for print, web, mobile, digital, social, video, broadcast, email, large-format facility spaces, unique event logos, t-shirts, etc. Must follow all University, Big 12 and NCAA regulations.
Required: Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of related experience. Experience must include creating graphic designs for print, web, digital, video, broadcast, and/or social and large-scale facility branding. Must have experience with Adobe Creative Suite (including InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and After Affects).
Preferred: Degree in related field; Experience managing a graphics design team in its efforts to successfully complete multiple creative projects simultaneously; Exceptional graphics design experience; Experience with photo editing, design elements used on various social media platforms and animation; Experience developing consistent branded design work across multiple mediums and platforms, including large-scale facility murals; Experience providing related services within a NCAA Athletics program.
