The Career Consultant for Student-Athletes, under the direction of the Associate Director for the Office of Career Development and Placement Assistance and the Director of Life Skills, will assist student-athletes/alumni with career planning and graduate school preparation in addition to coordinating programs within the Cathy and John Pelusi Family Life Skills program. Duties include:
- assisting with career planning, internships, and job search strategies through individual appointments, workshops, & programs - developing job search resources - establishing contacts with employers and faculty - assisting with graduate school preparation work
This individual will foster professional development skills through programming and individual appointments with student-athletes and coordinate life skills programs in accordance with guidelines outlined in the NCAA Student-Athlete Affairs Life Skills program. These responsibilities will be performed 1.5 days per week in the Office of Career Development and Placement Assistance, WPU and 3.5 days per week in the Cathy and John Pelusi Family Life Skills center at the Petersen Events Center.
A Master’s degree in student personnel, higher education administration or a related field is required. Knowledge of NCAA regulations preferred.
2 years’ experience in career advising, cooperative education, recruitment/employment, student affairs, guidance, or life skills education, and collegiate athletic experience as a student-athlete, coach, or staff member preferred.
An ideal candidate should possess a working knowledge of business, education, and industry, along with a theoretical framework in career development issues as it relates to post-graduate planning.
