Central Washington University, an NCAA Division II institution and member of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC), invites applications for a full-time (11-month) position as Head Men’s Basketball Coach. The head coach will be responsible for all aspects of a Division II program including, but not limited to: day-to-day operations; scheduling of contests, the recruitment and retention of quality student-athletes; fiscal planning; game strategy including practice and game coaching; supervising and evaluating basketball assistant coaches and staff; donor fundraising; alumni, community, and media relations. The successful candidate must be able to develop positive relationships with faculty, staff, students, media, alumni, and donors while interacting successfully with department personnel and university community. The Head Coach must conduct the men’s basketball program in compliance with all NCAA, State, National, GNAC and Institutional rules and regulations. Must also conduct men’s basketball program in concert with university mission and goals, and which student-athletes graduate and achieve competitive success.
A bachelor’s degree is required (master’s preferred), as well as five years of successful collegiate coaching experience (preferred as head coach or assistant) or combination of equivalent experience relative to the field. Strong recruiting network and strong fundraising potential is required. Computer and technology competence is essential. Participation in media appearances promoting the university and the men’s basketball program will be required as well as assisting with external relations including speaking engagements, donor relations, and corporate sponsorships, therefore strong oral and written communication skills are essential.
