Director of Athletic Operations Position Summary Concordia University - Portland seeks an experienced operations and marketing professional to join the Cavalier team as Director of Athletic Operations. The Director of Athletic Operations provides leadership to the department in the areas of event management and marketing. Success for this role includes perpetuating the department's reputation for hosting high quality events with an engaged fan base. The Director of Operations must be able to lead a large staff of student workers and collaborate with campus leaders to achieve department goals. Detail-attentive, dependable, organized, customer-service-minded, and self-motivated all describe a successful leader in this role.
The Director will promote a culture of institutional compliance and academic integrity. He/she will work to maximize use of facilities and resources and coordinate efforts within the Department to assure effective and efficient energy is directed to managing and promoting 15 varsity sports. The Director’s primary responsibility will be event management, facility management, student worker management and marketing and promotions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Oversee all aspects of Gameday Management including but not limited to:
Student Workers (hiring, scheduling and event set-up)
Concessions (inventory purchasing and management, scheduling and training of workers, and reconciliation after events)
Facility set-up and take down
Supervision of home events 40%
Establish and oversee a marketing intern program with the goal of designing, coordinating, implementing and executing a comprehensive marketing and promotions plan for all varsity teams. 25%
Management of the recruitment, hiring, training, supervising, and evaluation of the student worker program for the Department of Athletics including but not limited to, game day workers and office staff. 20%
Coordinate registration, hiring of workers and marketing for all six Concordia University summer sports camps. 10%
Oversee and provide leadership of the student group, ‘The Cavalry’. 2.5%
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by senior management team and/or the VP of Athletics. 2.5%
Internal – coaches, department staff, student-athletes, and physical plant staff
Scope of Work - Work includes complex projects with minimal to moderate guidance. Contact and impact of work is both internal and external to the university. Serves as an internal and external liaison for the Athletics department. Assists with keeping leaders informed of results, outcomes and impediments.
Working Conditions - Office and athletic/sport environment, moderate exposure to noise.
Minimum Physical Requirements
Able to tolerate repetitive motions and prolonged sitting at keyboard.
Must be able to climb and descend stairs in a safe manner.
Able to drive during varying weather and light conditions.
Able to bend, reach, twist and stoop on an occasional basis.
Able to lift up to 50 lbs on an occasional basis.
Ability to assist with facility maintenance/cleanup on a daily basis.
Minimum Requirements (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
Ability to communicate with a positive, credible and professional manner; verbally, in person, on the phone, in writing and as a public speaker.
Ability to motivate, organize and lead multiple groups of student workers to reach department goals.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage/prioritize multiple or competing responsibilities on a regular basis.
Ability to cultivate and maintain strong relationships with external vendors.
Able to mentor and motivate coaches and student-athletes for excellence as opportunities arise.
Adept using all Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, Outlook and Powerpoint. Able to effective use administrative software, network drive and web mail.
Able to use graphic design software including Adobe Creative Suite.
Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license throughout employment.
Ability to effectively collaborate and problem solve with other professionals in the Department of Athletics and other University Departments.
