This position will work under the direction and leadership of the Executive Director for the Ragin’ Cajuns Athletic Foundation (RCAF). In addition, the position will work cooperatively with university Development Officers in a coordinated effort to achieve the University of Louisiana’s fund raising goals, coordinate various athletic facility fund raising projects, is responsible for discovering, cultivating, soliciting and closing gifts, as well as developing and maintaining a strong portfolio of investors and prospects. A minimum of 15-20 prospect visits each month are expected with total portfolio management of 150-180 prospects. The Director of Major Gifts is expected to partner effectively with the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics coaches and leadership, as well as volunteers, will serve as a leader within the athletic development operation, advising and assisting in all aspects of strategic planning, goal setting, and operations while fulfilling a vision of excellence for RCAF. This dynamic and successful individual will work to significantly increase the level of philanthropic support from private donors and corporations/foundations. Job Tasks and Responsibilities
Identify, solicit, and cultivate for annual, endowed, capital, and planned gifts for athletics. Work with selected volunteers and other development staff to ensure coordinated and effective solicitation of the major gift prospects for athletics. Prepare written donor proposals for major gift solicitations. Maintain correspondence with donors and document interactions through university contact reports. Prepare background information on major gift prospects for key solicitors (athletic director, vice president for development and university relations, president, trustees, etc.) in advance of their donor visit. Review reports that assist in the identification of prospects and the stewardship of current donors. Achieve a professional articulation of fund raising initiatives and best practices related to donor identification, donor solicitation, call reports, and gift accounting practices. Attend RCAF Board meetings when applicable. Assist in facilitating events/receptions that serve as cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship opportunities. Research, cultivate, and solicit major gift prospects; ensuring donors receive proper acknowledgement, recognition, and stewardship. Conduct a minimum of 150 face-to-face visits per year. This position involves travel and will be required to work a flexible schedule including occasional evenings and weekends. Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of RCAF and/or Athletic Director. Obtain a working knowledge of university systems including Banner and Archtics (Ticketmaster)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of development/fundraising concepts and techniques within athletic fundraising.
Knowledge and experience with Ticketmaster ticketing software

Willingness and ability to make “cold calls” and to cultivate relationships with and solicit individuals and/or corporations and foundations.
Ability to manage many projects simultaneously and a demonstrated record of completing assignments.
Dedication to customer service.
Demonstrate the aptitude to represent the University, Foundation and RCAF in a highly professional and effective manner.
Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s preferred, with 2-3 years of philanthropic fundraising experience, preferred in a higher education setting or similar non-profit organization. Intercollegiate athletic fundraising experience preferred.
