Job Purpose Towson University, a Division I member of the Colonial Athletic Association, is seeking an Assistant Women's Volleyball Coach. This position assists the head coach in the coaching and day-to-day administration of a highly competitive Division I intercollegiate women's volleyball program. Serves as an academic contact to assist our student-athletes with scheduled meetings, tutors, study hall, etc. Performs D.O.V.O. duties including team travel; work camps- clinics; assist with practice and match preparation; player development; run drills; practice scheduling; recruit as permitted by NCAA rules and regulations; as well as attend community/alumni events to support the program and other duties assigned by the head coach.
Description The Assistant Women's Volleyball Coach will Assist head coach in the coaching and day to day administration of a highly competitive Division I intercollegiate women's volleyball program; serve as an academic contact to assist our student-athletes with scheduled meetings, tutors, study hall, etc. Perform D.O.V.O. duties including team travel; work camps- clinics; assist with practice and match preparation; player development; run drills; practice scheduling; recruit as permitted by NCAA rules and regulations; as well as attend community/alumni events to support the program and other duties assigned by the head coach. This position will be responsible for all "on the road travel" arrangements including but not limited to charter buses, rental vans, hotel accommodations, airline travel, meals, etc. This also includes exceling in the Tiger Travel portal with a complete understanding of the authorization, advance and expense process. Recruitment and retention of academically & athletically qualified student-athletes. Travel will be required and all compliance paperwork will be submitted in a timely fashion including but not limited to contacts/evaluations and CARA logs.
Assist in coaching/providing individualized skill instruction for student-athletes. Specifically get trained in 1-2 fundamental skills and then attend workshops, clinics, video sessions, and other sources to develop such training in these specified areas. Will also assist in practice planning and conduct practices in the absence of head coach. Other duties as assigned which will include but may not be limited to; assisting with and supervising evening study hall sessions for any at risk student athletes and with on campus and satellite camps; operating as a volleyball facilities manager during club rental season; attending Community Service events. Assists with Alumni Development by continuing to develop, revise, and build our alumni database with the goal of hosting two functions (one fall/one spring).
Qualifications Bachelor's degree and two years of successful volleyball coaching experience at the college, professional, club, or high school level. Ability to accept and carry out assigned program and responsibilities. Ability to communicate effectively and work well with other coaches, students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni and the community. Must be knowledgeable of and adhere to NCAA, conference and state rules and regulations. A demonstrated commitment to high academic standards for student-athletes and their ability to succeed both academically and athletically is essential. A demonstrated commitment to building a positive team culture, and commitment to personal and professional development of student-athletes. Needs to have the ability to work collaboratively within the structure and framework of an Athletics Department and University. Experience with NCAA recruiting of national and international student-athletes and experience performing director of volleyball operations work preferred. Division I coaching experience also preferred.
