Executive, Executive - Associate Athletics Director, Executive - Athletics Director
Goucher College and the Division of Student Affairs Among the 40 Colleges That Change Lives, and ranked first in the nation for study abroad programs, Goucher is a selective liberal arts college located 20 minutes north of Baltimore, MD. The College enrolls approximately 1,500 undergraduates, 84% of whom live on campus, and 1,200 graduate students. At Goucher, we are redefining the meaning of a liberal arts education, to help our students prepare for the jobs of the future. The Division of Student Affairs is a large and functionally-diverse division of the College, which enriches campus life and facilitates a supportive and inclusive environment for living and learning. Student Affairs is guided by a shared vision of “Learning Everywhere,” as we strive to facilitate transformational experiences and reflection within and beyond Goucher’s residential liberal arts community.
Position Overview We invite applications and nominations for the position of director of athletics (“AD”), a key and influential position within the College, responsible for overall leadership and administration of the intercollegiate athletics program, including operations, human resources, facilities, compliance, and financial management. As a department within Goucher’s Division of Student Affairs, Athletics fields 21 intercollegiate teams, including a nationally-ranked co-educational Equestrian program with on-campus facilities. The Goucher Gophers compete in the NCAA Division III as part of the Landmark Conference, with student athletes constituting almost 25% of the College’s undergraduate student body. The AD plays a pivotal role in enhancing the student athlete experience and campus life, and reports directly to the vice president and dean of students (VP/Dean). In partnership with the VP/Dean, the AD develops, promotes, and articulates the vision for Goucher Athletics, which sets forth athletics as a platform for advancing the learning and personal development of student athletes, in the classroom, in training/competition, and in the community. The AD builds strong relationships across multiple platforms, including faculty, staff, alumni, donors, and the broader community, and promotes a high level of integration of the athletics program into the overall student experience. The AD also serves as an integral member of the Student Affairs Leadership Team (SALT).
This is an especially opportune time for Goucher Athletics, following the successful 24-year tenure of the outgoing AD, who has laid a solid foundation for future success. A comprehensive rebranding campaign was recently completed for the Gophers, and an architectural master plan for Athletics, with associated fundraising initiatives, awaits new leadership. As an institution, Goucher is in the midst of an innovative plan to dramatically enhance the student experience, with a recently implemented all-new academic curriculum, a new residential First-Year Village currently under construction, and a new dining facility opening in Fall 2018. The Division of Student Affairs has also established a new Student Wellness area, which includes sports medicine, intramurals/club sports, and campus recreation programs, all presenting exciting opportunities for synergy and collaboration. In this spirit of collaboration, the AD will be fully-supported in developing innovative, unique, and creative initiatives.
