Executive, Executive - Associate Athletics Director
Bethune-Cookman University, a Division I member of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, located in Daytona Beach, Florida, announces a search for an Assistant Athletic Director of Academic Support. This is a full-time 12-month administrative staff position with responsibilities including but not limited to the development and implementation of the department’s academic success plan for student-athletes and supervision of the Office of Student-Athlete Support (OSAS). The position reports directly to the director of athletics or designee and its’ primary role will be to develop and implement a comprehensive program for academic enhancement for all student-athletes of a 17 sport NCAA Division I program including, but not limited to, supervision and coordination of student-athlete advising, monitoring study sessions and assignment of tutors, student-services and continuing eligibility. The assistant athletic director of academic support will be responsible for the management of the OSAS and assistance in the collection of data in the APR and GSR reporting process and will supervise a staff of 3 full-time academic coordinators, part time lab managers and graduate student assistants.Other responsibilities include: providing leadership to the Student Athlete Advisory Committee and oversight of the Life Skills Program; serving as the liaison to instructors and campus departments; select game management responsibilities; identifying and nominating student-athletes for MEAC and NCAA academic honors; monitoring the academic progress of student-athletes in conjunction with departmental, university, MEAC and NCAA rules, and mentoring. The assistant athletic director of academic support will also serve as an ambassador for Bethune-Cookman University.
Minimum qualifications include: a preference of a doctorate degree in education, counseling or related field; must have a master's degree in education, couseling or a related field; must have three years recent NCAA Division I experience providing academic support services to student-athletes, academic counseling, evaluating academic progress, coordinating study labs, tutoring services and academic advisement. The successful candidate must exhibit expertise in the management and utilization of academic tracking software packages; and proven proficiency in the development and submission of required data and applications regarding the NCAA APR process. Qualified candidates must also have: experience developing and implementing related student-athlete educational programming, study skills, time management and academic strategies workshops; Exceptional report writing, computer, workshop presentation and human relations skills; Strong commitment to academic integrity and compliance with university, NCAA and MEAC regulations and policies; Strong moral character and an appreciation and willingness to work as a part of a team collaborating with colleagues in a highly competitive environment; The ability to work in a culturally diverse, Christian environment is also required.
