The University of Dayton, a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference, is looking for a qualified individual with the following background and experience to become our assistant women’s softball coach (Intern). The University of Dayton has a broad-based, 17-sport intercollegiate, Division I athletics program. This is a full time, 12-month position with benefits. The assistant coach will assist the head coach in many aspects of this competitive NCAA Division I softball program. The assistant coach will primarily instruct, train and coach student-athletes about the collegiate sport of softball, the game and the skills required at the Division I level. This position will also instruct student-athletes for purposes of academic, social development, compliance requirements, and safety and health considerations. The assistant coach will implement a pitcher development program in accordance with the philosophy of head coach, and will assist in recruiting quality student-athletes, engage in team operations, including travel arrangements and video editing and management. Additional duties related to the program (e.g., office duties, equipment procurement, preparing player evaluations, assisting with field maintenance and equipment inventory and other duties as assigned by head coach are also part of this position. The UD Athletics internship program is designed to expose the highly-motivated individual to all aspects of a Division I athletic program. Strong performers have the opportunity to be considered for permanent positions within the division if and when they become available. Required qualifications : Bachelor’s Degree, college softball/baseball playing experience, possess a valid driver’s license, maintains a low-risk driving record and is able to be certified by the University, able to travel and work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays and able to demonstrate excellent written communication skills. Preferred qualifications include: College softball coaching experience, strong technical knowledge of collegiate women’s softball, strong technical ability in pitching & video analysis, able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal communication and organizational/administrative skills; able to demonstrate good working knowledge of and a personal commitment to institutional, conference and NCAA policy, rules and regulations; demonstrate expertise in all aspects of coaching student-athletes and demonstrate a commitment to the highest ideals of leadership, sportsmanship and academics with demonstrated and successful experience working with people from diverse backgrounds.
