The University of Virginia sponsors a twenty-five sport intercollegiate athletics program, which includes approximately 650 student-athletes.The Assistant Field Hockey Coach will be responsible for duties including, but not limited to: assisting in the administration, coaching and recruiting of a Division I program in compliance with NCAA and ACC rules and regulations; assisting in the coordination of team travel, recruiting travel, and visitations; organizing team managers; creating and monitoring physical performance programs in consultation with Field Hockey coaching staff and professional support staff; assisting student-athletes and coaches with community service projects; and other duties as assigned.Candidates must apply through the Jobs@UVA on-line application system. Required qualifications include: Bachelor’s degree required. Some experience working with athletes in the sport of Field Hockey required. Candidates must have strong leadership and organizational skills and the ability to work independently and as a team member. Requires the ability to effectively communicate and work with student-athletes, administrators, faculty, staff and alumni/friends of the University. Applicants must demonstrate a strong commitment to rules compliance of the NCAA, ACC and the institution.
Knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the sport program and the ability to teach technical aspects of the sport is required. Effective oral and written communication skills; the ability to work well under pressure and with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community; the ability to understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures; some knowledge of computers and software (Microsoft Office); general working knowledge of HR/GPS system and Sportscode necessary.
Preferred qualifications include: Bachelor's Degree or higher in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Sport Management, or related area; student-athlete and coaching experience at the intercollegiate level; student-athlete and coaching experience at the intercollegiate Division I level; student-athlete and coaching experience with NCAA and/or conference championship competition; athletic and coaching experience at the professional level; athletic accolades with regard to the sport of Field Hockey at the intercollegiate or higher level; administrative experience (i.e. budgeting, program planning, travel, etc.) at the intercollegiate or higher level; knowledge and use of video technology and/or software related to the sport program. A demonstrated ability to train goalkeepers is preferred.
