Head Athletic Trainer (Athletics)Department: AthleticsStatus: Non-ExemptJob Status: Full-Time (12 month position)Reports To: Director of AthleticsLawrence University invites applications for the full-time position of Head Athletic Trainer.The Head Athletic Trainer is primarily responsible for the successful leadership and management of the sports medicine enterprise in the athletics department. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, directing and coordinating all coverage and services of the athletic training room, managing all aspects of student-athlete medical care while participating, communicating regularly with appropriate personnel, contributing as a full member of the athletics department and Lawrence University community. The Head Athletic Trainer will operate in accordance with NATA, NCAA, MWC, NCHA, and Lawrence University rules and procedures. Credentials should reflect proven success or ability in working with student-athletes and other personnel in a highly demanding academic environment.Lawrence University is a member of the NCAA Division III, Midwest Conference, Northern Collegiate Hockey Association, and Midwest Fencing Conference. We strongly encourage candidates who can contribute to diversity at Lawrence to apply.Duties and Responsibilities:• Direct, coordinate, and implement practice coverage, contest coverage, general athletic training room services.• Manage referral of injured/ill student-athletes to appropriate medical personnel as needed.• Maintain, update regularly, and implement established protocols for injury/illness referral, treatment, rehabilitation, and return to play.• Coordinate all the disbursement, collection, and processing of student-athlete paperwork and baseline testing.• Coordinate and manage all secondary medical insurance logistics for the athletics department.• Supervise all other athletic training room staff, both professional and student.• Coordinate all schedules of team physicians and other medical specialists visiting the athletic training room.• Coordinate and administer the pre-participation medical examination with the team physicians.• Provide daily follow-up care and evaluation of the injured/ill athlete and communicate with appropriate athletic staff regarding status of injury/illness and participation capabilities.• Oversee the Athletic Training Room with daily maintenance.• Work within the budgetary guidelines established by the Athletics Director.• Operate within the regulations and guidelines set forth by the NATA, NCAA, MWC, NCHA, and Lawrence University.• Communicate regularly with the Director of Athletic Performance on student-athlete accommodations needed.• Communicate regularly with the appropriate coaching staff on the status of injury/illness and participation capabilities of each applicable student-athlete.• Communicate regularly with the Director of Athletics regarding injury/illness updates.• Work with other University medical staff to ensure the holistic care of our student-athletes as needed.• Coordinate all athletic training needs in preparation for scheduled competition.• Attend team practices and home/away contests as specified.• Attend appropriate athletics departmental staff meetings.• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.Minimum Requirements:• Master’s Degree.• BOC Certified Athletic Trainer.• Must be licensed or eligible for licensing in Wisconsin.• At least three years post-graduate experience working at the collegiate level.• Current Emergency Cardiac Care certification in line with the BOC requirements.• A valid Driver License.• The ability and willingness to travel and perform evening and weekend work.Qualifications:• Employment is contingent on a successful background check.• This position requires a clean, valid driver's license that has been in effect for at least three years.Lawrence is committed to enhancing the diversity of its faculty and staff and the viewpoints and approaches that a diverse community represents.
