East Tennessee State University is currently accepting applications for two positions of Assistant Director of Academic Support Services. Under the direct supervision of the Associate AD for Student Welfare and Compliance, this position’s primary function will be to provide academic support services to assigned sports. This includes planning and coordinating academic support for student-athletes in these sports to provide opportunities to maximize their use of University academic support resources. The Assistant Director will provide evaluations of prospective student-athletes with regard to NCAA academic standards and institutional academic standards. This position is responsible for semester advising, course selection, and recruiting visits; assists with major/minor choices and graduation planning; communicates with University and Athletics Administrators; assists with NCAA eligibility determinations and recommendations for Summer sessions; is responsible for proper and diligent record keeping, team meetings, routine and frequent communication with Coaching staff; tracks grade progress; identifies at risk students and targeted groups for workshops, tutoring, mentoring and other program events. Two positions available: Position 1 – Primary sport focus: Men’s Basketball, Men’s Soccer, Women’s Soccer. This position is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Academic Center for student-athletes and the tutoring program. Position 2 – Primary sport focus: Football, Track and Field. Position will be responsible for directing the study hall program for all sports.
Candidate should have a thorough knowledge of academic advising for student athletes and individual counseling techniques. The individual should have experience with evaluating NCAA Eligibility, rules, regulations, recruiting visits, violations and best practices to avoid violations.
Required qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and at least 1 year of experience working in an athletics department academic staff position at a Division-I institution; or 2 academic years in a graduate assistant position that provided academic support to student-athletes in an athletics department. Preferred qualifications: Master's degree, learning specialist.
