Working under the supervison of the team physician but reporting to the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Administration, the head athletic trainer manages all aspects of the athletic training room operations. Manages the athletic training room staff and provides leadership for athletic training program. Primary sport responsibility will be football. This position will supervise one Associate Athletic Trainer, five Assistant Athletic Trainers and five Graduate Assistants. This position ensures proper treatment of all student athletes. Ensure that all medical records and insurance claims are properly maintained and recorded. Supervise the coordination of all student athlete care with Team physicians. Manages the Department budget and supervises the Department’s drug testing program. Ensures that the standards of NCAA and University are in compliance with set standards.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Manages all aspects of the athletic training room operations and supervises the athletic training room staff. Manages athletic training operations at all games/events as necessary. Supervising, managing and developing staff that report directly to the head athletic trainer. Directly responsible for football. 2. Coordinates the care, prevention, and treatment of athletic injuries to student-athletes in all sports programs. Maintains complete, accurate, and detailed medical records for all student-athlete injuries. 3. Arranges for injury and illness treatment by team physicians and other physicians as necessary. Serves as liaison to Tulane Medical Center, Tulane Institute of Sports Medicine, and other medical care providers. 4. Manages the drug-testing program. Manages the athletic training budget within the parameters of the approved operating budget. Manages the secondary insurance program. 5. Assists in directing or directs sport camps as requested or required. 6. NCAA Related: Ensures that all Department of Athletics and University related activities operate in full compliance with university, conference and NCAA rules and regulations. Attends and participates in scheduled compliance seminars and complies with all the Athletic Department’s efforts to monitor compliance with NCAA regulations. Seeks interpretations from the compliance staff before acting when necessary. Reports potential rules violations immediately. Completes required compliance paperwork in a timely and efficient manner. Monitors all of their areas and/or programs activities closely to maintain compliance with applicable rules and regulations. 7. Performs other duties as assigned by the Sr. Associate Athletic Director, Administration.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, SKILLS, ABILITIES, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s Degree and two years’ experience as a Certified Athletic Trainer (NATA BOC)
Eligible for, obtain and maintain license to practice Athletic Training in Louisiana (LSBME).
Current CPR/First Aid/Automatic External Defibrillator(AED) Certification
Strong interpersonal skills
Ability to interact effectively with coaches, administrators, student athletes and vendors
