| Under limited supervision of the Director of Athletics, ensure the Division III Softball program is in accordance and compliance with NCAA, WIAC, and University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point policies and regulations. The primary responsibility of this position is teaching and instructing student-athletes in the rules and fundamentals of the sport. Additional responsibilities include: recruiting, fundraising, public relations, travel, equipment acquisitions, summer camps and clinics and other duties as assigned. |
55% Coaching and Instruction -Provide instruction to student-athletes on the rules and fundamentals of Softball -Plan and direct the development of student-athletes in relation to general and specific skills necessary for successful competition -Maximize player and team performances by identifying individual and team strengths and weaknesses; instruct utilizing strengths and weaknesses -Define and implement individual and team goals -Plan, organize, and execute in-season programs (skills, strength & conditioning, etc.) independently or in consultation with assistant coach(es) -Instruct student-athletes, student-employees, and assistant coaches in the principles and rules of the sport, WIAC, NCAA, and University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point policies and regulations -Monitor the academic progress of student-athletes on your team, ensuring that progress is made toward attainment of their degree
20% Recruiting -Develop and maintain a competitive program through the recruitment of quality and diverse student-athletes -Plan, organize, implement and evaluate recruiting activities within guidelines set by the NCAA, WIAC and university. -Develop and maintain recruiting records and logs -Identify, observe, evaluate and recruit prospective student-athletes
20% Administration of Softball Program -Adhere to all rules, regulations, and guidelines of the NCAA, WIAC, and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point -Schedule, prepare, and supervise all team travel, including: transportation, lodging, and meals -Ensure the appropriate safety precautions are taken by all personnel involved with the program; adhere to all athletic training measures for the safety and welfare of students and staff. -Develop and maintain departmental budget including reconciling expenses, submitting Travel Expense Reports (TERs), and fundraising -Develop games schedule in accordance with guidelines and calendars of the university and regulatory bodies; maintain awareness and understanding of academic schedules and pertinent game regulations. -Reserve athletic facilities for games, practices, and events -Assist the Sports Information Director (SID) by providing information to ensure all necessary statistical, student-athlete and staff information is current. Promptly inform the SID of changes in schedules, rosters and/or personnel -Provide Athletic Trainer(s)/Coordinator(s) with support, updated practices schedules and information necessary for them to care, prevent and rehabilitate student-athletes -Assist the Equipment Manger as requested in all matters pertaining to selection, ordering and returning of equipment, supplies and materials -Assist in developing support to promote the program, through public relations, camps, clinics, booster clubs, and departmental involvement
5% Other Duties and Responsibilities -Attend job-related clinics and conferences -Seek and maintain regular continuing education and involvement, including professional organizations and educational activities -Serve on department and university committees as requested -Assist with the development of outreach activities which support and enhance the athletics program, individual sport, and university NCAA Responsibility: You agree to abide by and be legally bound by the applicable rules and regulations of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, the NCAA, and all affiliated conferences of which the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point is a member. Violation of these rules shall make you subject to disciplinary action, including dismissal.
