The internationally recognized athletic program at Bolles provides students in middle and upper school the opportunity to learn, grow, and develop into well-rounded individuals. Participation and camaraderie are as important as competition and success in the overall educational aspect of the athletic program. With 42 teams at the middle, junior varsity, and varsity levels, Bolles offers a full complement of athletic opportunities. The student body regularly approaches or exceeds 90% participation in one or more sports.
Purpose: To organize, direct, and sustain a competitive men’s interscholastic and club rowing program. This position will work closely with the Head Coach for Women’s Rowing to lead a team of 4-6 Assistant Coaches and approximately 140 rowers in grades 6 through 12. The Head Coach serves as a motivational figure who inspires high morale, builds team cohesiveness, communicates effectively, and provides positive reinforcement to our student athletes. This is a 12-month, full-time position.
Essential Functions: • Responsible for all facets of the Men’s Rowing Program • Supervise athletes during practices and regattas, including general warm-up, race preparation and race analysis • Establish an environment that fosters positive team attitudes, encourages self-discipline, sportsmanship, leadership, responsibility, and an appreciation for the importance of academics • Prepare and communicate season objectives and outline for training plan(s) • Uses appropriate and varied coaching techniques; prepares and conducts regular assessments of students’ athletic and behavioral attitudes and achievements • Assigns workouts and gives feedback in a timely manner • Teaches rules of rowing and boathouse protocol • Maintains order in and around boathouse and on the water, adhering to safety protocols • Inspire confidence in the athletes, coaches, and parents • Advise and counsel rowers who wish to pursue junior development opportunities and/or collegiate competition, including writing letters of recommendation, if requested • Oversee participation in local, state, and national meets and regattas • Lead the fall and spring crew programs, scheduling, and supervising daily practices and off-season training (winter/summer conditioning programs and camps) • In partnership with the Women’s Head Coach, develop and sustain a youth rowing program, separate from the scholastic rowing program • Review, enhance and enforce all safety procedures • Ensure that Assistant Coaches and participants are properly trained and conditioned • Co-manage the physical operation, maintenance and inventory of the waterfront facilities--- boathouse, docks and equipment at our state-of-the-art boathouse and crew complex • In partnership with the Women’s Head Coach, coordinates race transportation, season race schedule, and travel arrangements • Coordinate with Finance Office for proper billing and collection of club fees for the program and handle business side of the club • Design and implement department plans and budgets • Manage special events related to Crew; coordinate the seasonal athletic awards assembly • In partnership with Marketing, provide input in preparation and dissemination of publicity to promote events • Work with Administration, parent leadership, and committees to manage and grow the program • Ensure compliance with all applicable Florida Scholastic Rowing Association and USRowing rules and regulations • Ensure compliance with all applicable FHSAA and Bolles Athletic Department policies and procedures • Responsible for the selection, supervision, and evaluation of Assistant Coaches supporting the Men’s program
