The Hardrock Club, a not-for-profit 501 (c)(3) organization located on the campus of the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, invites applications for a Senior Associate Athletic Director of External Operations. This position will be responsible for the multi-faceted fundraising priorities in athletics that will include scholarships, capital projects, and operational support. The position will design individualized cultivation and solicitation strategies for prospects and complete and close on gifts. This position will be accountable to the Hardrock Club Board of Directors for all aspects of fundraising including the ongoing identification, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and tracking of prospects, and will also collaborate with University and Foundation representatives and other campus entities and will recommend fundraising initiatives. The position will report directly to the Athletic Director, and will prepare, assist, and guide the athletic director, coaches and other key university administrators with meetings and conversations with prospects. In addition, the successful candidate will be skilled at planning, coordinating, and directing events related to the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Hardrock Club. The position must also be skilled at developing, negotiating, and overseeing corporate athletic partnerships.
The successful candidate must have a minimum of a bachelor's degree in an applicable field. An accredited Master's degree in sports management, athletic administration is highly encouraged. Relevant experience would be a comprehensive knowledge of fundraising, planned giving, promotions/events planning, public relations, or marketing in conjunction with business, finance, or non-profit management. The successful candidate must possess excellent communication, persuasion, and diplomatic skills. Significant experience with fundraising database systems/software is preferred. The Hardrock Club, organized in 1951, was established to raise funds to support athletic programs at SD Mines, much of which is provided in the form of athletic scholarships. The School of Mines became a full member of NCAA Division II athletics in September 2013 and is a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC). Nearly 300 student-athletes participate in 13 sports at the School of Mines, and the University employs 30 full- or part-time coaches and administrators. Compensation is commensurate with experience, but base compensation will start at a minimum of $70,000.
