Job Summary: The Athletic Trainer is responsible for providing care to intercollegiate student-athletes for eleven sports teams at Fort Valley State University (FVSU).
This is a full-time, 12-month position that reports to the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Abides and complies with all applicable NCAA, SIAC, and FVSU policies, rules and regulations
Attends practices and games
Recognizes and evaluates injuries
Applies protective or injury-preventive devices such as tape, bandages, and braces
Provides first aid or emergency care
Develops and carries out rehabilitation programs for injured athletes
Administers treatment as ordered by the University physician
Travels with athletic teams in order to be available at sporting events
Refers the student-athlete to the University physician for medical attention in the event of a major injury or illness. In the case of an emergency or the absence of the University physician, the trainer makes arrangements for the student-athlete to receive competent medical care
Assists the University physician in determining if a student-athlete is physically able to compete
Notifies the respective head coach of the ineligibility of any candidate who fails to pass the University physician’s examination and sees that such candidate does not participate in the sport until certified by the University physician
Keeps records of all athletes’ injuries and is responsible for completing insurance forms for athletic injuries
Submits annual report of claims, injuries and rehabilitation, and recommendations of training regiments
Attend meetings with the coaching staff and individual student-athletes
Submits recommendations for cost/expense savings in the sports medicine department in regards to rehabilitation, physician visits, and insurance
Reports to the Athletics Director and is subject to the supervision of the University physician
