| The Director, Student-Athlete Engagement and Professional Development will provide program leadership, management, and coordination concerning personal development initiatives to enhance individual growth and leadership skills with student-athletes. S/he will develop and implement an educational Professional Development Transitions Series to assist student-athletes’ career preparation; serve as the liaison to and collaborate with the University of Maryland’s Career Services Center and the Athletic Department’s M Club to host educational career seminars, networking events, career fairs and mentoring programs; create and regularly communicate Career Corner updates; and direct the InTERPship Academy. The Director will develop and implement strategic initiatives for effective career preparation; promote and secure internships and employment opportunities; assist in the development and creation of career development resources for student-athletes and student-athlete alumni; support and assist with the TERPCareer Network and mentoring program; coordinate community service activities to enhance life skills and student-athlete welfare and leadership; assist with events for former athletes in conjunction with alumni relations; and participate in community outreach programs. S/he will lead, coordinate, and implement professional development initiatives to increase and enhance various programs for staff, ie, training, professional development, seminars, etc. as well as coordinate and manage ICA’s annual intensive Emerging Leaders program for 8 to 10 selected employees. The Director will serve on selected campus, conference and NCAA committees as requested and will cultivate relationships with internal and external constituencies. The Director, Student-Athlete Engagement and Professional Development will research and prepare analytical reports as requested, ie, risk management issues involving camps and clinics, student-athlete placement rates in the workforce, advanced graduate studies, post-collegiate life, social issues, etc. S/he will also ensure program’s compliance with the laws, policies, rules, and regulations governing the University and its employees as well as the rules of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (the “NCAA”) and the Big Ten Conference, as well as perform other duties as assigned. |
