Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana, seeks a highly motivated graduate assistant for the Spring 2017 Semester and beyond. The graduate assistant will gain hands-on experience in athletic equipment services. This position will provide the opportunity to gain a diverse level of hands-on experience in all facets of an athletic equipment room including but not limited to, purchasing & ordering equipment, equipment repair, and the daily operation of an equipment room for multiple sports. Upon review, this position is eligible to be extended to a second year. Northwestern State competes at the Division I level in the Southland Conference. Duties: • Assist director in purchasing and delivery of equipment. • Assist director in facilitating equipment delivery for away contests. • Assist with equipment repair. • Assist with the daily operations of equipment room. • Assist with student-athletes equipment needs in a variety of sports. • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements: • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university is required. • Demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in college athletics. • Graduate assistants shall be admitted to a Northwestern State University graduate program. GRE scores are a requirement for admission and vary by particular program. • Previous athletics experience as a student worker, or an intern. Preferably as a student manager or in an athletic equipment department.
Salary: $12,000 annual stipend (prorated for GAs that begin the spring), out of state fee waiver

Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana is a member of the Southland Conference and competes at the Division I level in 14 sports. Northwestern State University was established in 1884 in the old Bullard Mansion atop a hill overlooking the bustling river port city of Natchitoches. The campus grew as the school expanded from a two-year degree for teachers at Louisiana State Normal ...School to the four-year education degree at Louisiana Normal College in 1921. In 1944, the school became Northwestern State College and Northwestern State University in 1970.Today, over 130 years later, three columns remain of the original structure on what is now called Normal Hill in a National Historic District. This location is the oldest continually occupied site for higher education in Louisiana. The campus expanded to the south and west as the school grew, and Northwestern State established satellite campuses in Shreveport, Alexandria and Fort Polk.
