| The Division of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) is responsible for leading the university’s alumni and fundraising efforts. DAR seeks to promote a culture of philanthropy throughout the university community, including alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff, corporations and foundations, patients and other friends. DAR works hand-in-hand with the Department of Athletics & Recreation to maximize philanthropy at all levels to support GW’s athletics programs and student athletes. The development office in Athletics works with all constituents (student athletes, athlete alumni, athlete parents and friends of the program) to raise money through the annual fund, known as the Buff & Blue Fund, leadership annual giving and major and principal gifts. DAR is in close partnership with the Director of Athletics and the Senior Associate Director of Athletics, External Relations to think strategically about how to engage these constituents and maximize philanthropic dollars in support of GW’s 23 varsity sports, club and recreational teams.
The Division of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) is currently looking for Executive Director Of Development, Athletic and Recreation
Incumbent in this position will set strategic direction for the Athletic Development Program, coordinates with and engages others in this work, including staff (Athletic Director, marketing, sponsorships, coaches, athletic staff, subordinates, and others in development), alumni, and external constituents. Works closely in consultation with the Director of Athletics, Senior Associate Director of Athletics (and/or their designee) and the Assistant Vice President for Development (and/or his/her designee) to create philanthropic and alumni strategies that advances the athletic program.
Manages a pool of up to 125 major and principal gift prospects for support of athletic programs; cultivates and solicits prospects via email, phone, letters, and personal visits in order to meet major gift metric targets.
Manages fundraisers, directs their development efforts and ensures fundraising success. Strategically deploys staff and financial resources to ensure effective events, regional efforts, and capital campaigns. Engages parents and volunteers in the development effort and supervises the integration and set the strategic direction for Athletic Alumni Relations working in consultation with GW’s Office of Alumni Relations.
Coordinates and maximizes development efforts by working closely with other athletic staff, such as coaches, marketing, sponsorships, ticket sales, and those with centralized development functions such as Parents, Principal Gifts, Planned Gifts, Annual Giving, and Corporate & Foundation giving.
Develops and manages the athletic fund-raising budget, provides appropriate reports as requested. Supports and coordinates development efforts with senior university officials and leadership volunteers. Manages three team members and will oversee training and one-on-one management. This position will be responsible for all management functions relative to the oversight of these positions including ability to hire (should position(s) become vacant) and responsibility for overseeing performance management.
