| The College of New Jersey has launched its search for an Executive Athletic Director who exhibits a commitment to excellence in academics and athletics. |
As the senior leader of the TCNJ Athletic program, the Executive Athletic Director will provide strategic direction and a clear vision of the role of athletics in a highly selective academic environment, with an athletics program comprised of 500 student athletes and 20 NCAA Division III intercollegiate teams, competing in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). The Executive Athletic Director ensures that department operations are in compliance with NCAA, NJAC and institutional rules and guidelines, and demonstrates the ability to respond to changes in regulatory standards. The Executive Athletic Director ensures that all athletic department programs align with the strategic plan; enhances the educational experience by providing athletic opportunities to students with varying interests and skills; promotes student-athlete personal development, high academic achievement, and full participation in all aspects of college life; is a visible leader on campus, and in the community; represents the College and TCNJ Athletics to external constituents, including prospective students, parents, alumni and the general public in a manner that demonstrates personal and professional integrity; and, promotes the interests of TCNJ Athletics and the College. In addition, the Executive Athletic Director efficiently and responsibly administers and manages operating budgets for the department, performing cost and productivity analyses; and leads, organizes, and supervises the Department of Athletics staff.
Additionally, the Executive Athletic Director works collaboratively with the Director of Recreation and AVP for Health and Wellness to share facilities and meet the needs of student athletes and the general student body; working with the Office of Advancement, plans and identifies strategies to enhance revenue generation; serves as the departmental liaison to the offices of admissions; oversees all athletic facilities/venues and equipment to ensure safety, optimal playing conditions, and appropriate representation of the College; and ensures that the goals of TCNJ Athletics align with the mission and objectives of the college. The Executive Athletic Director performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
- Master degree in a related field and at least 7 years of direct senior level (Associate Director level or higher), managerial, experience in college athletics, with a preference for experience at Division III institutions
- Experience working with advancement personnel and alumni/prospective donors resulting in fundraising success
- Demonstrated experience in establishing and sustaining an athletic program of excellence
- Understanding and experience with managing change in an organization
