The Patton College of Education
Ohio University is a Doctoral/Research intensive state university with over 23,000 students on its picturesque Athens campus and over 16,000 students on its regional campuses and in its e-learning programs. The Department of Recreation and Sport Pedagogy is one of five departments in the Patton College of Education. The Patton College has more than 80 faculty members serving more than 2,100 undergraduate and 800 graduate students. Housed in newly renovated McCracken Hall, the college has a proud history spanning over 125 years. The Department of Recreation and Sport Pedagogy is comprised of three programs: Coaching Education, Physical Education, and Recreation Studies. The Coaching Education program consists of three separate tracks: the online Master of Coaching Education track, the online Master Soccer Coaching Education track, and the campus-based Master of Coaching Education track. There are approximately 270 students in the program.
This is a Group I tenure-track position that reports to the Department Chairperson. The successful candidate will be responsible for (1) serving as coordinator of the Coaching Education program's online Master of Coaching Education track; (2) developing and maintaining a sustained record of scholarship; (3) teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in the campus-based Coaching Education program; and (4) providing service to the department, university, community, and profession. Program coordination responsibilities include but are not limited to: (a) reviewing applicants for admission into the program; (b) course scheduling; (c) recruitment and supervision of adjunct instructors and course facilitators for the online MCE track; (d) coordinating program partnerships with the OHIO e-Campus and Pearson Embanet; (e) planning, implementation and evaluation of periodic Coaching Education residencies; (f) student advising; and, (g) promoting the growth and development of the program.
- Earned Doctorate in Coaching Education, Physical Education, Sport Sciences or related discipline. Applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered; however, for appointment,
- the Doctorate must be completed by the date of appointment.
- Successful college/university teaching experience in both online and face-to-face instructional formats.
- Demonstrated commitment to scholarship and research.
- A history of effective coaching experience at the high school, collegiate, and/or professional levels.
- For appointment at the level of Associate Professor, a history of teaching, scholarly and professional productivity commensurate with the standards for promotion to Associate Professor at OHIO is required.
Starting Date: August 21, 2017
Salary and Benefits:
Salary is commensurate with education and experience. The position is a nine-month tenure-track appointment with potential for additional summer teaching, plus university benefits including tuition for self and family, a comprehensive insurance package (prescription plan, vision benefits, dental plan, life insurance), and an excellent retirement plan.
