The City of Greenville, (64,579) located in the Piedmont/Upstate Region of South Carolina set in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, is seeking highly experienced and qualified candidates for the position of Parks and Recreation Director.
The Parks and Recreation Director is responsible for leading the Greenville Parks & Recreation Department in the successful and sustained achievement of its mission to deliver superior services to the residents of Greenville and to meet the goals assigned to the department by City Council and the City Manager. The Parks & Recreation Department is staffed with 124 employees and is comprised of four separate divisions: Administration, Recreation, the Greenville Zoo and Parks and Grounds. The Department is also responsible for urban design projects including streetscape design, bicycle facility design and the design of public open space. In total, the City maintains over 400 acres of public park lands, over 500 beautification sites, 14-acre zoo facility, five community centers and a number of athletic programs, trails, cemeteries, playgrounds and sports fields. The City operates with a total staff of about 937, is operating with a Fiscal Year 2017 budget of $78,623,699 and holds the coveted triple-AAA bond rating.
