Position available in the Recreation Programs division of the Department of Parks & Recreation. This is a position with significant supervisory responsibilities, including the development and supervision of programs in the recreation division which include gymnastics, sports, martial arts, camps, arts and crafts shows, and special events.
Responsible for researching ideas for new programs and improvements to existing programs
Evaluates events with budget recap; organizes information gathered to carry out programs
Works with individual and community groups to provide and enhance programming; develops flyers, print and web-based marketing materials for assigned programs; provides a significant role with instructional classes and special events, including the Herndon Festival; attends meetings, conferences and training classes
Serves as department representative to various committees
Supervises, schedules, directs and evaluates assigned staff. Recruits, interviews and hire personnel
Participate in the preparation and administration of the recreation program budget and quarterly reports; submit budget recommendations; monitor expenditures; provides records to support Agency’s CAPRA accreditation
Works as a team member to support other department staff in the implementation of a dynamic and diverse array of recreation activities and events
Bachelor’s degree in recreation or closely related field; supplemented by 2-3 years previous experience and/or training involving managing public parks and recreation programs or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
Considerable knowledge of recreation program planning and development; and with special events planning and operations
Must have excellent written and verbal skills; be proficient in Microsoft Office; first aid and CPR certifications
Must have a valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Some evenings, weekends and holidays
