Assistant Coach, Cross Country, Track & Field
The Athletics Department at Towson University is accepting applications for full-time Assistant Coach, Cross Country, Track and Field. This position will serve as recruiting coordinator and will develop a strong recruiting base of top quality prospective student-athletes.
Recruit prospective student-athletes and coordinate the recruiting function for the Cross Country/Track & Field program, which includes overseeing all recruiting assignments to other coaches, developing a recruiting calendar, setting recruiting priorities, overseeing all on-campus visits, and selecting which prospects receive a scholarship offer in coordination with the Head Coach; develop contacts and relationships with pertinent Track & Field clubs/organizations, high school coaches/programs; maintain an efficient and effective tracking and evaluation system; assist in all aspects of practice and meet coaching; provide skill instruction for student athletes, including individual sessions, small groups, and total team training; assist with oversight of student-athlete academic progress and eligibility, community service/outreach, and other duties as assigned by Head Coach; and perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach, including compliance with all NCAA rules.
Bachelor's degree and one year of experience coaching cross country, track and field at the camp/clinic, high school, or collegiate level. The selected candidate must have technical knowledge and skills regarding cross country and track and field; quality recruiting experience; knowledge of university, conference, and NCAA rules/regulations/requirements; strong organizational skills; proven ability to train and recruit at the Division I collegiate level; ability to accept and carry out assigned program and responsibilities; ability to communicate effectively and work well with students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni, and the community; ability to pass the NCAA recruiting test and have a thorough understanding of NCAA rules and regulations; a demonstrated commitment to high academic standards for student-athletes and their ability to succeed both academically and athletically; ability to work collaboratively within the structure and framework of the Athletics Department and University; and the ability to confidently and competently lead a training session for women. A Criminal Background Investigation is required for the hired candidate and the results may impact employment.
Previous experience in coaching the throwing events is preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word is strongly preferred.
