Grand Canyon University’s Athletics department is currently seeking qualified applicants for a part-time (25 to 30 hours per week) Assistant Academic Coordinator. This position is designed to provide many opportunities for a master’s/post-master’s individual to gain hands-on experience in the areas of student-athlete support services. The goal of the Director of Student-Athlete Development is to provide guidance, share knowledge, and present opportunities to gain functional experience so that upon completing three or more semesters the individual is ready to move into a full-time position within the field. The position will report directly to the Sr. Associate Athletic Director/Director of Student-Athlete Development.
Study hall facilitation. Tutor appointment scheduling. Academic advising (some evenings and/or weekends will be necessary). Be proactive and solution-oriented in mentoring "at-risk" student-athletes. Assist in compiling weekly grade reports for coaches. Work collaboratively with campus units (colleges, Student Service Advisors, orientation, etc.) to promote the academic success of student-athletes. Assist with registration process, certification for competition, verification of progress toward degree (PTD) requirements, APR data collection, and other duties as assigned.
General Administrative- Assist with student-athlete development workshops and events, on-campus recruiting visits, planning special events and honorary coaches program. Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in education field, counseling, psychology, or related degree program is required. Master’s degree preferred. Experience working in athletics setting and demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse population of students and staff. Experience as a former student-athlete or working in athletic administration is preferred. If enrolled in a full-time master's program (preferably a related educational field), will jointly determine a work schedule around classes.
