| The Southland Conference, based in suburban north Dallas, and serving 13 member institutions in Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas, is seeking applicants for the position of Assistant Commissioner for Strategic Communications. |
The selected applicant, under the direction of the Commissioner and Associate Commissioner for External Affairs, shall be responsible for the overall management of the Conference’s communications operation. This includes, but is not limited to: 1. Developing a visionary, creative and effective communications strategy across multiple platforms; 2. Being knowledgeable in traditional and non-traditional media relations and statistical services, as well as publicity and promotional methods that enhance the reputation of the Conference and its member institutions; 3. Serving as spokesperson for the Conference, and expertly writing, editing and managing Conference content, including for the official web site, www.southland.org, news releases, media guides and other printed material, electronic communications, television and radio copy, and social media sites; 4. Developing productive working relationships with national, regional and local media members that enhances coverage of the Conference. Actively telling the Conference’s story, identifying and creating opportunities to obtain media coverage for the Conference and its membership, scheduling interviews, preparing talking points for interviewees, and generating coverage of other important issues; 5. Working collaboratively with and providing appropriate direction to institutional athletics personnel for the collective good of the Conference’s publicity efforts; 6. Providing expert direction, training and support for the Conference’s communications staff; 7. Maintaining and enhancing the Conference’s historical archives; 8. Producing and presenting reports concisely as requested by the Commissioner and the Conference membership; 9. Performing other duties as requested by the Commissioner.
