VCU Athletics’ mission is to win conference and national championships, provide a first class student-athlete experience, serve as a source of pride for the University and community and cultivate graduates who excel as leaders. The Director of Student-Athlete Development will provide services for student-athletes to enhance their personal, professional, and career development.
- Assisting student-athletes with their educational plan and assist with developing their career goals. - Spearhead the VCU Black and Gold Network, a career development program for student-athletes. - Develop relationships with constituents on campus who can aid in student-athletes professional development. - Observe FERPA policies without appearing unhelpful; and referring student-athletes to appropriate resources in a way that encourages them to follow through. - Coordinate community engagement opportunities for student-athletes and responsible for tracking student-athlete community service hours. - Serve as the SAAC Liaison and Advisor. - Develop, manage, and coordinate professional development activities for student-athletes to include conferences, networking opportunities, and workshops. - Create network and build collaborations with local employers with whom our student-athletes will intern, seek summer and permanent job opportunities for student-athletes; help organize student-athlete career and personal development workshops. - Coordinate the All-Sports Banquet, Student Athlete Kick-Off, It’s on Us Campaign, and other events. - May be responsible for academic coordination of one sport. - Maintain the student-athlete handbook, and assist with other events as assigned. - Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Incumbent Must Have:
- Valid Drivers License - Must have an advanced degree or training and work experience at a level that equates to an advanced degree. - Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member atVCU. - Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communications skills required. - Must have thorough knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
