Northeast Community College has come a long way over the past 40 years. In 1973, Northeast’s campus consisted of four new buildings on the northeast edge of Norfolk and several older buildings located in the downtown area. Today, Northeast’s 205 acre main campus in Norfolk includes 27 buildings with classroom and lab facilities; library/resource center; a welcome center; student center; an activit...ies center with gym and theater; residence halls and two apartment buildings for student living, and a farm and an agriculture complex.
In addition, the College operates extended campuses in O’Neill, West Point and at the College Center in South Sioux City to better serve residents district-wide.
Northeast now offers over 80 programs and concentrations of study. In 2011-12, total credit enrollment was 7,323 students and non-credit enrollment was 15,015.
In 2013, Northeast broke ground on its latest building. The 66,613-square-foot Applied Technology Education and Training Building will house the Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC), Building Construction, Electromechanical, Electrical Construction and Control, and a portion of the Wind Energy Technology programs. The project will completely relocate programs from the Building Construction and Arlo Wirth Buildings and a portion of the Weller Building. The vacated spaces will be used for program needs and expansion.
Northeast Community College is also expanding its reach to the western portion of its service area with a new $2.5 million extended campus in O’Neill. A capital campaign is currently underway to secure funding for the endeavor. The current facility in a former elementary school building no longer meets the needs of today’s highly technical learning environments and does not have space to expand training for businesses and industries. Plans call for the new extended campus in O’Neill to open in 2015.
Northeast Community College has established a reputation in the region, state and nation as being a forward-thinking and responsive institution. The College is committed to helping its students be successful, as well as serving its communities, businesses, and industries with workforce and economic development initiatives.
The College has a long, rich history in serving and meeting the needs of the 20 counties of Northeast and North Central Nebraska. “We’re Northeast. Success Starts Here” isn’t just a tagline; it’s a belief system that clearly demonstrates Northeast’s commitment to educational achievement of its students and to the region today and for the next 40 years and beyond.
