| Reporting to the CEO, the Director of USRowing Properties is a senior level position within the organization responsible for the planning and development of all USRowing branded properties, regattas and events. Creation of new revenue streams and fan engagement strategies to grow the spectator base will be critical success metrics for this position. This position is responsible for a current events budget of $1.4 million. |
The USRowing’s national championship events including the National Championships, Club National Championships, Masters National Championships, and Youth National Championships.
The director oversees all of USRowing’s regional regattas and the paid staff/contractors that serve as the regatta directors. The director shapes the theme and direction of the Annual Convention and serves as the point person for site selection for USRowing’s national events. In cooperation with the national team programs staff, the director oversees staff handling the logistics for all national team selection and trials events.
Creation of new event series around indoor and coastal rowing will be important to the future growth of the sport. USRowing also seeks to build and grow the event management knowledge base to create a network in the rowing community that will build future growth of the sport through our registered regatta sanctioning program.

C. Budget – Oversees the budgets ($1.4m) for all USRowing-owned regattas (national and regional), with an emphasis on profitability and revenue growth.

1. Sets the engagement strategy for promotion of properties with communications and membership staff.
2. Coordinates with membership department for compliance aspects at events.
3. Engages marketing department for sponsor activation and promotion.
E. External Impact 1. High profile with event organizers, sponsors and community sports organizations. Serves as primary resource from USRowing for organizing committee of national championship regattas, registered regattas, trials and annual convention.
F. Key Contacts -- Has frequent contact with marketing contacts, regatta organizing committees, and senior USRowing staff and leadership. Has occasional contact with referees, coaches and athletes organizations bidding for events and board of directors.
II. Primary Job Responsibilities
a. Develops and engages sponsors to support USRowing properties.
b. Creates a distribution channel and materials related to best practices within regatta and event management, revenue development and spectator engagement for use by USRowing’s membership.
c. Engage sports commissions, CVB’s and local business groups to grow exposure for rowing and to develop interest in hosting events.
d. Expand national relationships to grow venue options at various hosting levels for regattas, and other properties.
e. Oversees national championship regattas to ensure the successful planning and operation of these events. This includes managing staff to run both the on-the-water aspects of the regatta, as well as off-the-water events surrounding the regatta including contract negotiations and commitment on behalf of the association. Oversees staff in the development of the volunteer base at regatta venues that host USRowing-owned events.
f. Responsible for overall themes and engagement strategies of the annual convention.
g. Oversees staff in the running of USRowing’s regional regattas.
h. Coordinates the programs department in staffing the technical requirements for national team trials and selection events.
i. Leads, in concert with the director of operations, and director of membership, to develop new properties and events for the membership.
j. Oversees staff in the development and distribution of USRowing-owned regatta (national and regional), trials and convention information bulletins, with information consistent with the rules of rowing, coaching education program and specific event regulations.
k. Directs the development of materials for USRowing’s communications outlets such as the Web site, e-newsletter and e-magazine.
l. Oversees the evaluation and development of regatta management software and results software.
m. Supervises staff in the entry processing and event schedule development for the national championship and trials events.
n. Oversees the development and distribution of event bid packages to potential organizing committees.
o. Oversees on-site support staff for national events by USRowing.
p. Oversees staff in the care and maintenance of national trophies.
q. Oversees staff in the annual production of national events medals and awards.
r. Directs the process of evaluation and selection process of national event and convention sites.
