Position Summary: General Responsibilities: The faculty member shall be responsible for the following: teaching assigned classes and the coaching assignment under the supervision of the area dean; helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content; assessing student learning outcomes; maintaining a thorough and up-to-date knowledge in his/her regular teaching field; continuing professional development; utilizing current technology in the performance of job duties; maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position; assisting with articulation and curriculum development and review; serving on college committees and participating in faculty governance including accreditation and student co-curricular activities; assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the area dean; fulfilling other duties and responsibilities of a full-time faculty as outlined in the college faculty handbook.
Additional Position Summary: The mission of the Folsom Lake College Kinesiology, Health and Athletics department is "To provide, quality athletic and academic programs that enrich and empower students to reach their full potential as informed and productive members of their community." The department curriculum includes the Kinesiology Associate Degree for Transfer, fitness courses, individual and team activity courses, theory courses, and intercollegiate athletics courses.
Folsom Lake College has state of the art fitness and athletic facilities. The physical education building includes a weight room, cardio circuit room, group fitness room, dance studio, student-athlete study center, locker rooms, and faculty offices. The outdoor sports complex features: lighted stadiums for softball, baseball, and soccer with seating for 400-500 at each, a lighted 9-lane all-weather track with grassy infield, nine lighted tennis courts, an archery complex, and a 2-mile cross country trail.
The gymnasium facility opened in 2015 and includes an instructional gymnasium and a spectator gymnasium, athletic training facility, team locker rooms, faculty locker rooms, officials' locker rooms, concessions and ticket area, faculty offices, meeting rooms, and a dean's suite.
Assignment Responsibilities: The instructional assignment may include, but is not limited to, teaching courses in: ? Health Education ? Kinesiology ? Fitness ? Activity and Sport
Teaching assignment may include day, evening, on-line, television courses, podcasts, hybrid, weekend, and/or off campus classes.
Additional Responsibilities: FLC's inaugural softball team debuted in 2016, competing in the Bay Valley Conference. The entire athletics program is now competing in the Big 8 Conference starting in Fall of 2016.
The head coach's responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: ? Planning and executing practice. ? Ongoing recruiting. ? Coaching and oversight of all games. ? Scheduling athletic contests. ? Arranging transportation. ? Preparing budgets. ? Purchasing uniforms, equipment, and supplies. ? Ensuring athletes' ongoing eligibility. ? Working collaboratively with the athletic faculty, staff, and administration. ? Initiating and participating in fundraising activities. ? Undergoing California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) compliance training. ? Enforcing district, college, and CCCAA rules and student requirements. ? Maintenance and upkeep of the softball field. Minimum Qualifications: 1. Have a master's degree from an accredited institution completed by January 12, 2017, in Kinesiology, Physical Education, Exercise Science, Education with an emphasis in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Physiology of Exercise, or Adaptive Physical Education; OR, a bachelor's degree in any of the above AND a master's degree in any Life Science, Dance, Physiology, Health Education, Recreation Administration, or Physical Therapy; OR, hold a California Community College Instructor's Credential in the discipline area; OR, the equivalent.*
2. Have the equivalent of two full years of coaching experience within the last ten years, with one year within the last three years.
3. A minimum of five years of successful coaching experience in intercollegiate or interscholastic softball.
4. Have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles.
