| The Assistant Athletic Trainer reports to Head Athletic Trainer. Duties and responsibilities include: Coordinate doctor visits for injured student-athletes of assigned sports. Coordinate medical coverage (athletic trainer, physician, or EMS) for home and away events as necessary for assigned sports. Assist in the daily operation of the athletic training center. Provides daily updated injury reports to all coaches of assigned sports. Ability to teach classes in the athletic training education program/EXSS department as assigned by the director of athletic training education. Supervises and evaluates athletic training students as a preceptor. Assists in maintenance of athletic training inventory. Assists in maintenance of safe and functional athletic training equipment. Assists with NCAA and UIU drug testing programs. |
Assists in the development and enforcement of policies and procedures for smooth operation in the athletic training facility. Assists in the development, planning, and restructuring of the athletic training education program. Performs other duties as assigned by the head athletic trainer, director of athletics, director of athletic training education, and the clinical coordinator. Follow the NATA code of ethics for athletic trainers. QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE: Proficient with preventing, recognizing, evaluating, and treating athletic injuries. Experience with maintaining accurate records of studentathlete injuries and other medical documents. Ability to communicate efficiently with other staff members, head coaches, athletic training students, student-athletes, parents, and many medical professionals. Certified athletic trainer by the Board of Certification, Inc. and in good standing with this organization. Licensed as an athletic trainer in the state of Iowa or eligible for licensure. Current certification/training in CPR, AED, and first aid. Earned Bachelor's Degree (Master's preferred) in athletic training or related field from a regionally accredited university or college.
