San Diego State University, located in beautiful San Diego, California, is seeking nominations for the position of Director of Athletics. The Director of Athletics will be responsible for the administration of all aspects of the athletics program and will provide strategic leadership and direction for a program that places a priority on academic achievement and athletic excellence. SDSU has thirteen women’s and six men’s varsity intercollegiate athletic teams and operates with a budget of over fifty million dollars. The Aztecs have enjoyed tremendous success over the past six years. Since 2010-11, SDSU’s combined football and men’s basketball record ranks third in the nation; the football team has made six straight bowl game appearances. Since the beginning of 2012-13, Aztec athletics have won 32 conference team titles and this past year, SDSU had 33 All-Mountain West Scholar Athletes.
Evidence of effective leadership and the ability to manage and motivate others;
A high degree of knowledge of NCAA Division I athletics programs;
A demonstrated understanding of and commitment to compliance with NCAA regulations;
Evidence of strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships with internal and external constituents;
Demonstrated success and mastery in managing a large budget;
Evidence of successfully generating revenues for a complex organization;
A commitment to and experience in raising private support from donors and from corporations, in partnership with the division of University Relations and Development;
A commitment to the marketing and promotion of Aztec Athletics, as well as experience in public speaking and media relations;
A successful record of long-range financial planning in a complex organization;
A successful record of and commitment to promoting diversity; and
A strong network of relationships with leaders within Division I athletics and affiliated organizations.
A Bachelors degree is required; a masters degree(s) is preferred; ?
Five years of successful senior-level management experience in NCAA Division I athletics, preferably at the FBS level, or a related field;
Must show evidence of a commitment to student-athlete well-being that includes an expectation of excellence in education, personal conduct, and preparation for life after college; and
Exemplary integrity, character and personal behavior.?
Additional Salary Information: The salary will be commensurate with experience and competitive with comparator institutions, specifically those in the Mountain West Conference.
