Coordinates and monitors the efficient irrigation of landscapes. Responsible for the collection, compilation and interpretation of technical data through field and office research, and the examination and interpretation of irrigation water use. Produces various reports, spreadsheet projections, monthly and yearly statistical analyses, technical charts, graphs, and maps. Designs and implements water conservation programs and policies to ensure long-term water savings on properties in Thornton. Conducts an inventory and analysis of water usage for irrigation accounts within the city. Performs irrigation system audits, soil analysis, and identifies micro-climates. Develops and monitors water budgets for irrigation accounts. Monitors and maintains records of past and present water usage and expenditures. Develops and implements irrigation system malfunction/leak response programs to reduce water waste. Identifies properties and/or irrigation accounts to target for irrigation system and/or landscape improvements. Responds to citizen concerns about irrigation practices. Reviews and makes recommendations for the city Standards and Specifications for Landscaping and Irrigation. Reviews city Development Code and policies. Proposes changes to improve water efficiency. Ensures city facilities model the most efficient water-saving practices for the community. Manages irrigation and oversees landscape maintenance at select city-owned Xeriscape gardens. Develops proactive programs to assist irrigation accounts such as school districts and homeowners associations with water budgets, efficiencies, audits and other related items. Develops programs that ensure industry best practices are used by landscape contractors that work on residential and commercial landscapes in Thornton. Develops, monitors and manages budgets. Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in Horticulture or related field from an accredited college or university; two years of horticulture, landscape irrigation management or related field experience. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Valid Colorado driver's license with a safe driving record. Irrigation Association Certified Landscape Irrigation Auditor (CLIA) within 6 months of employment. Certified Irrigation Designer (CID), Colorado Licensed Landscape Architect, Certified Landscape Water Manager (CLWM) and/or PLANET Landscape Industry Certified Technician desired.
