Graduate Assistant - Event Management Athletics Louisiana State University
Since the beginning of LSU Athletics in 1893, Tiger sports teams have won 47 national championships in nine different sports (the most in the Southeastern Conference) and have claimed 132 Southeastern Conference titles. With a capacity of 102,321, Tiger Stadium is the sixth-largest on-campus football stadium in the country. LSU has ranked among the nation’s top 10 in football attendance 16 years in a row. LSU has also led the nation in attendance in baseball for the last 21 years. Over 1.1 million fans annually pass through the turnstiles of LSU athletic facilities in all sports.
The LSU Athletics Department is currently accepting applications for the position of two (2) Graduate Assistants in the Game/Event Management Department. These positions will assist four full time staff members in the coordination and execution of all varsity sporting contests and other various special events.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Assist with guest services, event staffing and security aspects at assigned events; Collaborate with other departments within LSU Athletics to ensure guest satisfaction with event experience; Provide gameday support as Assistant Game Manager to professional staff for assigned sports; Complete assigned projects and other clerical work; Work closely with coaching staffs, game officials and visiting teams to ensure participants satisfaction with playing conditions; Assist gameday parking operation – supervise lot attendants, ensure equipment/signage is operational, etc.
The positions will supervise undergraduate student interns (3-5) and Geaux Team volunteers (20+) and manage contracted transient staff (security, parking attendants, ushers, bag checkers, ticket takers, etc.) during sporting and special events.
The positions will work with other entities such as Landmark Event Staffing, Lofton Security Service, LSU Police Department, LSU Parking & Transportation Department, Acadian Ambulance, Boy Scouts of America, ROTC, other campus entities, etc. to ensure all fans and participants have a safe and enjoyable event experience.
The professional staff will assign specific sport responsibilities. The positions will also have the opportunity to gain experience with hosting NCAA championships and other special events.
• Bachelor’s degree • Admission to the LSU Graduate Program in Sport Management or other departmental approved graduate program • Previous work experience in professional or collegiate athletics • Possess strong organizational, communication and time-management skills • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Social Media. • Must possess knowledge and ability to adhere to policies and procedures of Louisiana State University, LSU Athletics, the SEC and the NCAA Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Sport Management or Athletics Administration. • Previous Game/Event Management experience with a Division I Power 5 institution • Previous experience with conference championships or NCAA postseason events • Knowledge of EMS Software, WeatherSentry, ISS 24/7, Precision Timing, Wanco Message Boards.
Special or Physical Requirements:
• Ability to work nights, weekends and some holidays is required. • Must be able to walk up and down stairs and stand in one place for long periods of time in variable weather conditions. • Must possess the ability to lift and move items up to approximately 50lbs
Anticipated start date is July 2018. Scholarship to cover tuition expenses for the Sport Management Master’s Program and $1,500 stipend/semester. Weekly office hours and staff meetings will be scheduled around university classes. The candidates will be expected to continue to work over the summer months and possible additional compensation may be available. The Graduate Assistantship is a two-year commitment, renewable after the first year at the discretion of the athletic department. End date upon graduation (2 year maximum).
