The Director of Intercollegiate Athletics is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the athletic department including, but not limited to, budget management, scheduling, fundraising, staff supervision/evaluation, athlete eligibility, academic monitoring, and alumni development.
The Director of Intercollegiate Athletics has direct oversight over all sports, athletic training, strength and conditioning, recreation and sports information.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•Provide strategic leadership for the athletic department while maintaining a visible and energetic presence within the campus community. •Promote a culture of competitive and academic excellence for student athletes. •Actively market and promote the University through events, committee involvement and public speaking opportunities. •Understand and believe in character education as outlined in the NAIA Champions of Character program. •Responsibly manage and oversee all aspects of the athletic department budget. •Collaborate with appropriate offices on effective scholarship strategies. •Coordinate and provide appropriate administrative oversight for home events. •Hire, supervise and evaluate all full and part-time staff. •Participate as a member of the Student Life staff in support of the mission of the University. •Work with the University to foster alumni and community relationships.
Bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s degree is preferred.
Previous experience in an athletic-related field is preferred.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Preferred knowledge of and commitment to NAIA rules. Preferred knowledge of Champions of Character program and commitment to its principles and goals.
Ability to speak publicly without difficulty.
Hold a valid Missouri driver’s license and adhere to the WWU vehicle policy.
