Reporting to the Assistant Director of Athletic Compliance and Student-Athlete Success, the Head Volleyball Coach will provide leadership and oversight for all aspects of a competitive Division III women's volleyball program, to include coaching the team; planning and supervising team practices and competitions; actively identifying, evaluating, and recruiting student-athletes; and working within the NCAA, USA South Athletic Conference, and departmental guidelines. The head coach is responsible for the supervision and coordination of the work of volunteer assistant coaches and graduate assistants. The incumbent will demonstrate a strong commitment to the academic achievement of student-athletes by monitoring and actively encouraging participants to succeed academically and represent the College with the leadership and integrity, both on and off the court.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 1. Provides leadership and coaching for the women’s intercollegiate volleyball team. 2. Effectively recruits qualified student-athletes in compliance with department, college, and NCAA guidelines. 3. Complies with all NCAA, USA South Athletic Conference, college and department of athletics regulations and policies. 4. Schedules, implements, and attends all pre-season, in-season, and post-season practices and contests. 5. Schedules all varsity contests; coordinates special events, hosts college tournament(s). 6. Provides financial accountability for all ASC and non-ASC volleyball functions hosted by the coach/team/department. 7. Oversees strength and conditioning for volleyball. 8. Prepares athletes for competition and performs post-season evaluations. 9. Coordinates team travel arrangements. 10. Supervises the laundering and care of team uniforms, and care and maintenance of team facilities and equipment. 11. Supervises graduate assistant and volunteer assistant coaching staff. 12. Ensures compliance with athletic department facility contracts, scheduling priorities, and guidelines. 13. Coordinates all on and off-campus recruitment activities within the guidelines of the NCAA. 14. Participates in designated staff functions including job related in-service training. 15. Other administrative duties as assigned.
Education: Undergraduate degree required; masters’ degree preferred in related occupational field of study
Experience: Minimum of two years coaching experience at the collegiate level with proven recruiting experience
Considerable knowledge of sport concepts and techniques, NCAA rules and regulations, and rules and scoring.
Familiarity with recruiting techniques, high school coaches and athletes, and student-athlete concerns.
Effective interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written).
Strong computer skills in a Windows-based environment (Microsoft: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Gmail, including at least intermediate level word processing and spreadsheet development.
Possess a strong commitment to the academic achievement of student-athletes by monitoring and actively encouraging participants to succeed academically and represent the college with the leadership and integrity, both on and off the court.
Ability to work with diverse populations, as part of a team, and collaborate with others.
Demonstrated ability to work independently, to maintain confidentiality, and to supervise others.
