Under the direction of the Director of Inclusion & Engagement, the incumbent will be expected to create and manage the Student-Athlete Engagement initiatives and coordinate programming with other department staff. The Director for Student- Athlete Engagement will work with individuals within the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics, with parents, and those in the community to develop and improve programming that supports and increases student-athlete engagement.
Additionally, the Director for Student-Athlete Engagement will be required to represent the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics at various external functions, including development events, career days and promotional events. Work with marketing, athletic communications, business development, digital content, video services on athletic department messaging and content initiatives. The incumbent will assist the W-Club department with outreach efforts to current and past student-athletes. Partnering with Badgers Give Back, the incumbent will represent UW Athletics at community-related events such as hospital and school visits.
Additional duties include: Collaborating with Office of Student-Athlete Development with programming efforts to ensure consistency, participation and relevance. Assisting and collaborating with the Director of Inclusion and Engagement on student-athlete programming and diversity related matters. Encouraging and supporting student-athlete participation in campus, community and athletic programming which includes but is not be limited to 1) assisting student-athletes to gain skills that will help them deal with everyday issues, 2) encouraging student-athletes to use available resources to assist with transition issues that are specifically related to participating in intercollegiate athletics. Working with incoming student-athletes, their parents/legal guardians, and other individuals influential in the student-athletes' lives to enhance their overall acclimation to the athletic department, university and community. Assisting other athletic department units, including, but not limited to, compliance, academics, student- athlete development, community relations, in their ongoing work with student-athletes and their parents/legal guardians. Serve as a resource to student-athletes, their parents/legal guardians, and other individuals influential in the student-athletes' lives.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree is required, master’s degree preferred. A minimum of seven years of combined experience in intercollegiate athletics, professional athletics, and/or university/college setting working with wide variety of students, athletes and staff in a collaborative effort is required. A minimum of two years of experience assisting others with transition issues specifically related to intercollegiate or professional athletics is required.
Working knowledge and understanding of University, Big Ten and NCAA rules. Proven success working with diverse groups of individuals in various professional settings. The most qualified candidate will possess effective management and communication skills, have strong attention to detail, be highly organized, highly motivated and also have the ability to handle multiple tasks. Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays as required by events.
Conditions of Appointment: This is a 100% Academic Staff appointment. Salary will be assigned within the appropriate range, commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. An excellent benefits package is also included. Anticipated start date on or after December 11, 2017.
