Woodside Sports Complex – General Manager
Woodside Sports Complex is a premier year round sports destination in the tourist area of Wisconsin Dells, WI. Consisting of 3 properties: 2 outdoor sports facilities, and 1 indoor facility, Woodside Sports Complex offers year round programming in a multitude of sports disciplines and special events at the Largest All Turf Facility in the Midwest.
Acceptable Experience and Education Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university and ten (10) years of Sports/Sales and event planning experience, including four (4) years of senior management experience. Or any equivalent combination of educations, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Essential Duties Administrative Duties: Serves as the chief advisor on Woodside Sports Complex related matters to the Owner and Board in order produce top quality work that ensures exceptional service and results;
Selects, assigns, supervises, trains, motivates, evaluates, disciplines, and delegates the duties and work of assigned professional, technical and administrative support staff; provides management, administration, organizational leadership, and team building; works with staff to identify and correct performance challenges; issues termination of department employees when necessary;
Directs the department's strategy, goals, and objectives to be consistent with priorities, policies and procedures established by the Owner and Board. Assists in the development of Woodside’s strategic plan, directs plan implementation at the department level, provides regular evaluation and reporting of progress at the department level, and recommends modifications to the Owner and Board when necessary;
Directs strategizing, planning, organizing, reviewing, designing, and evaluating of the overall operations and development of the departments and functions overseen;
Responsible for all administrative, and department operations; provides management, administration, organizational leadership, and team building;
Delegates authority and responsibility, and schedules program work on a long-term basis; establishes standards and priorities and ensures they are maintained by others; approves selection of new employees, discipline, termination, performance evaluations, and personnel actions;
Prepares progress reports and departmental activity reports to communicate work of the department to the Owner and Board;
Provides general administrative direction to departments overseen; mediates inter-departmental disputes;
Establishes and maintains effective public relations in a complex environment involving technical and non-technical personnel; responds to inquiries from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the professional community; responds to, analyzes and resolves difficult inquiries, grievances, or complaints;
Prepares, presents and administers budget submissions for Woodside Sports Complex; oversees budget allocations and expenditures;
Communicates to and serves as the liaison with, civic groups, consultants, Convention and Visitor Bureaus, Township Boards, planning commissions and regulatory agencies;
Serves as a professional technical advisor on department related matters to the Owner and Board, and on committees both within and outside of the organization.
Substantive Woodside Sports Complex Duties: Directs the goals, objectives and activities of Woodside Sports Complex to be consistent with priorities, policies and procedures established by the Owner and Board;
Oversees and develops long-term strategies for integration, coordination and direction of special events;
Plans and recommends short-term and long-term improvement plans for Woodside Sports Complex facilities, which includes new properties, and disposition of existing properties;
Oversees activities relating to all Woodside Sports Complex venues; assists with the assessment of adequate manpower and equipment needs;
Makes financial recommendations on capital purchases, annual budget and expense allocations for Woodside Sports Complex; oversees financial planning for departmental functions and needs in concurrence with Owner and Board approvals;
Responsible for instituting and maintaining the highest quality of all programming to make Woodside Sports Complex events and venues a destination;
Develops and maintains event policies and guidelines;
Establishes symbiotic community partnerships and sponsorships;
Oversees the execution and coordination of the programs, marketing and booking of events;
Responsible for Capital Construction projects for Woodside Sports Complex dealing with sports venues, programs, and special events from several thousand to multi-million dollar projects;
Reviews and studies surveys, designs and time, labor and cost estimates and consultant and contractor bids on proposals that involve, sports venues, programs, and special events;
Manages and coordinates with programming partners or clients, vendors, maintenance and operational staff, and the public; Works closely with programming partners and clients in their design and execution of events to ensure desired quality outcomes;
Ensures proper event certification processes, such as liability insurance and permits for programming partners and vendors;
Establishes approval process, pricing, and guidelines for venue rentals based on market research;
Ensures the creation of pro forma of venue rentals for various scenarios; Oversees development of marketing collateral;
Directs market research coordination, and other statistical data;
Responsible for the marketing of facilities and the events on Woodside Sports Complex’s website, social networks, and in other media;
Partners with the Convention and Visitors Bureau and other organizations in the marketing of Woodside Sports Complex facilities and events;
Partners with other Woodside Properties (Woodside Wisconsin Dells Hotel, Woodside Ranch Resort & Conference Center & Old Towne, Mama Z’s Country Grill) in the creation of synergy;
Substitutes, if assigned, for staff during temporary absences by performing delegated duties sufficient to maintain continuity of normal operations;
Stays abreast of new trends and innovations in the field; develops more efficient methods; develops managerial talent in the staff; evaluates personnel and organizational structure;
Commits self to providing excellent customer service and demonstrate commitment through cooperative team and individual efforts; and
Creates a high quality work culture through participation in and emphasis on training and mentoring to develop leadership, management, and technical skills in self and all employees;
Summary of Position The General Manager, under general direction and supervision of the Owner and Board, provides direct oversight of all programming, planning, directing, and managing of the sports venues, programs, and special events. The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining facilities, and attracting a steady flow of visitors to Woodside Sports Complex venues and events by delivering exceptional experiences for all ages and abilities through a frequent, consistent, and robust offering of planned activities and events year round.

Woodside Sports is a premiere sports complex made up of 3 separate state of the art facilities that offers camps, clinics, tournaments and other events for all ages. The Mauston, WI facility consists of 8 all-turf baseball/softball fields, 6 batting cages and a full concession stand/retail area. The Wisconsin Dells, WI facility includes 6 all-turf soccer/multipurpose fields, 2 grass soccer/multip...urpose fields, 4 all-turf baseball/softball fields, a full concession stand/retail area, 2 separate meeting rooms and a spectacular VIP viewing area. Our third facility, also located in Wisconsin Dells is the Woodside Wisconsin Dells Center Dome, a 90,000 sq. ft. clear-span multipurpose facility. The Dome can accommodate 10 basketball courts, 16 volleyball courts, 2 softball fields or 1 full soccer field and also has 13,000 sq. ft. of pre-function space.
