The B.A.A. and our Mission: Established in 1887, the Boston Athletic Association is a non-profit organization with a mission of promoting a healthy lifestyle through sports, especially running.
Attain national and international level performances with an emphasis on US Championships
Uphold the image and reputation of the B.A.A. and its sponsors
Support and encourage engagement of the High Performance team members within the club and within the community (Boston and running) to be excellent athletes and positive representatives for the organization and our sport.
Overview of Role: Reporting directly to the B.A.A. Athletics Performance Director, this position is responsible to recruit, lead and coach a team of U.S. athletes living and training in the greater Boston area. Position the B.A.A. as a leader in athlete development and performance.
Conduct daily practices
Establish seasonal and yearly performance goals for individuals and group
Implementation of coach-developed and specified training programs
Contribute to the continued development of existing training groups
Attend regular B.A.A. club priority events and races
Collaborate on the development and of B.A.A. race training programs as needed
Report minimally on a weekly basis to athletics Athletic Performance Director, giving feedback about practice sessions, developments, etc.
Establish seasonal and yearly competitive racing calendar
Athlete recruitment and setting of performance standards
Work within specified budget
Coordinate integrated Sports Medicine and Therapy programs
Assist in identifying housing needs for athletes
Coordinate travel for athletes for events and training camps as needed
Manage athlete apparel and footwear ordering and distribution
Provide digital content as needed for B.A.A. platforms
Serve as a contact for prospective elite members
Select suitable training venues and scheduling
Travel with team members to select priority events and training camps
Assist in community outreach participation as directed (i.e. race clinics, youth events)
Perform other mutually agreed upon duties as needed
Scope of Position:
Full-time position working exclusively for the B.A.A.
Integration into existing coaching staff/structure and the administration of the B.A.A.
Coaching to be performed both in an individual and group setting
B.A.A. office in Boston serves as headquarters for coach
Embrace the organization’s policies, philosophy and goals
Skills and Qualifications: • Several years of coaching experiences in the collegiate, or elite level club system preferred • Coached athletes that have achieved national and/or international level of performances • Knowledge of various middle-distance and long distance running training systems • Competitive athletic experiences from which to upon draw preferred • Requisite leadership and communication skills • Knowledge and familiarity with the competitive athletics environment in US and Internationally • USATF Coaching certification or similar certification • Registered USATF Coach
