The University of New Mexico is looking for a Chief Financial Officer for its Athletics Business Office. Under general direction, as a direct report to the Director of Athletics this position will direct and oversee the business and fiscal management, for the Athletics Department. This position requires a vast working knowledge of all NCAA and MW rules and regulations. Duties and responsibilities include:
Manages and coordinates the financial/fiscal operations of the Athletics, to include the development and administration of capital and/or operating budgets and expenditures, and the establishment and management of financial control systems.
Responsible for management of athletics department policy and procedures. Put appropriate monitoring in place to ensure compliance with all guidelines. Develop operational procedures for monitoring financial transactions to ensure accurate recording and strong fiscal management. Recommend need for operating guidelines and update policies and procedures as needed.
Manages and oversees the establishment and administration of contractual arrangements and leased properties with external vendors, concession operators, and/or suppliers.
Review accounting statements sent by UNM cost accounting to ensure all transactions charged to athletics are accurate.
Effectively monitor all fiscal and budgetary matters within the Athletic Department in the institution's effort to comply with NCAA, MW and UNM rules and regulations.
Responsible for recommending cost and operational improvements in athletics to ensure cost effectiveness of resources and operational efficiency.
Serve as Department of Athletics liaison with designated UNM departments to ensure effective communication and collaboration..
Prepare annual NCAA annual EADA financial data report, annual NCAA Revenue and Expense Report and any other NCAA financial reports.
Serve as primary liaison for all athletic department audits, be they internal or external.
Assist with developing cost proposals for needed athletic resources, equipment facilities, personnel for Senior Associate Athletic Director and Director of Athletics to submit to Executive management.
Provide management and supervision of staff, which consists of two full time staff members and two student workers.
Bachelor's degree; at least 7 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
5-7 years working in an Division1 Athletic Business Office
CPA certification/Masters degree in related field
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight reporting deadlines; attention to detail; and excellent organizational skills, required.
