The Assistant/Associate Director for Communications coordinates, produces and disseminates publicity materials and statistical data to promote the Patriot League, its member institutions and the accomplishments of its student-athletes. The Assistant/Associate Director reports to the Assistant Commissioner for Communications (or other administrators designated by the Commissioner), and works in a cooperative manner with members of the League office staff and its member institutions to achieve League goals.
Performs all media relations and communications functions for the promotion of the League sport programs and activities. Distributes information to institutions, the media and other reporting outlets.
Serves as a League representative and liaison and communicates regularly with member institution communications staffs, maintaining regular communication throughout the year.
Serves as the primary communications contact for a variety of League sports, including women’s basketball. Prepares releases on a weekly basis, and timely updates of statistics, scores and standings on a regular basis during the sport seasons.
Assists in the timely creation and distribution of League information and statistical data via releases, social media (e.g., Facebook, Twitter) and other electronic mediums.
Handles the daily management and updating of the League website for sport-specific information and general content, and serves as the League’s main liaison with its website partner (SIDEARM Sports).
Attends events throughout the academic year to develop relationships with institutional administrators, coaches, and the media.
Assists in the planning, coordination and implementation of all communications efforts for the Patriot League Women’s Basketball Tournament and women’s basketball media day/teleconferences; assists with the planning and on-site conduct of other League championships as assigned.
Develops and maintains strong relationships with members of local, regional and national media.
Performs additional duties as assigned by the Commissioner or Senior Associate Commissioner for External Relations.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited, four-year college or university is required.
At least two years of full-time, professional experience working in communications, media relations, marketing communications, digital/social media or a related field.
Applicants must be able to develop and manage strong relationships with coaches and administrators from League institutions, possess strong organizational, verbal, written and computer skills, and demonstrate the ability to manage a variety of responsibilities simultaneously.
Experience in PC-based desktop publishing, Web management and use of statistical programs (e.g., Statcrew).
Experience in the creation, implementation and execution of social media plans.
On-air experience preferred, but not required.
The position requires travel, as well as availability to work on nights and weekends.
