The Ohio State University Department of Athletics is seeking a Social Media Manager. The Social Media Manager is responsible for lead administration of Ohio State digital media platforms; foremost social media outlets as well as serving as a content contributor to the Department of Athletics website. Reporting to the Assistant Athletics Director for Digital Media, this individual will act as a distribution point for department messaging and as a direct liaison between the department and the public following of Ohio State athletics. Duties include, but are not limited to: administration of day-to-day updating and content planning for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube, Pinterest and Giphy as well as support with additional outlets, effectively communicating with multiple areas within the department to best capture and relay news, department highlights, event and ticket promotions, and additional information as assigned and attend various events and provide real-time updates to fan-based communities. This position will hold a key role with sponsors and coordinating content with the Department of Athletics and its media rights holder and will manage full-time and part-time student staff. This position works in a creative and collaborative team environment where change is embraced and innovation is encouraged.
A Bachelor’s degree is required, a Master's degree is preferred.
Required experience/skills include: Minimum of four years of experience in social media, digital media and/or public relations; supervisory experience; excellent written and verbal communication skills; creativity; experience with design/desktop publishing and video editing; ability to manage a large flow of information and multiple projects; self-motivation; exceptional organizational skills; ability to work effectively with a diverse population.
Expertise in managing various social media platforms is required, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Pinterest, YouTube, Periscope and Giphy. Candidate must possess ability to keep pace with emerging social media and technological innovations as well as excel in creating original, entertaining, thought-provoking content to expand upon public interaction on all athletics digital media platforms. Strong writing skills are a must and knowledge of desktop publishing and photo/video editing programs, including the ability to edit video and design animated motion graphics such as GIFs is required. The ideal candidate should possess an innovative technical mindset. Strong communication skills, ability to work in a team environment, foster relationships and capability to coordinate strategic communication plans are required. Candidate will need to work a flexible work schedule based on events, including evenings and weekends.
Desired experience: Experience working in intercollegiate athletics.
