Transylvania University invites applications for the full-time position of Head Strength & Conditioning Coach. This is a full-time, benefit-eligible, ten-month position. Weekend, holiday, early morning and/or late evening hours are required.
The Head Strength & Conditioning Coach is an administrative position within the Department of Athletics who will report to the Senior Associate Athletic Director. The successful candidate will work with the head coach of all twenty-six varsity intercollegiate teams to develop, coordinate, and/or implement strength and conditioning programs for highly competitive NCAA Division III Athletics. Responsibilities include the following:
Development of pre-season, in-season, post-season and summer workout and conditioning programs for each sport program, in conjunction with the coaching staff, that enhance overall student-athlete well-being and athletic performance while reducing injury.
Development and scheduling of strength and conditioning orientations and workouts with all head coaches and the individual student-athletes of each team during the traditional and non-traditional segments of each season
Coordinate with Sports Medicine Staff in the prevention and rehabilitation of athletic injuries.
Upkeep and maintenance of records on the strength program of each team and specific individual workouts of each student-athlete.
Supervision of the varsity weight room to include training, scheduling and management of student-workers, part-time and volunteer coaches.
Development and oversight of varsity weight room budget to include maintenance of strength training equipment.
The position requires a bachelor's degree and a strength and conditioning certification from a nationally recognized program. Certification in CPR, AED, and First Aid are mandatory and Transylvania University can assist in obtaining if necessary. In addition, candidates should have an athletics philosophy compatible with a Division III liberal arts college with highly selective academic standards. Preference will be given to candidates with a master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and minimum of 3-5 years of coaching experience at the collegiate level. National Strength and Conditioning Association’s Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) are the preferred certification. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal, organizational, and written/oral communication skills as well as a demonstrated commitment to professional development.
