DESCRIPTION: The Director of Athletic Communications & Events is responsible for managing the communications and home events operations for the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. Westminster College is beginning its final year as a provisional member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA II).
RESPONSIBILITIES: Coordinate all media coverage for intercollegiate athletics; Identify media outlets and effective distribution of information to maximize coverage of Griffins Athletics. Manage game statistics, award recognition, game results and interviews. Write and distribute press releases, department announcements, social media posts, game results and statistics. Manage home game operations, including hiring, scheduling and supervising staff, web-stream broadcasts, coordinate photography, coordinate event setup/teardown, statistics and trouble-shoot. Submit payment requests, manage visiting team and officiating needs, and assist with other Special Event needs (i.e., Athletic Hall of Fame & Senior Recognition and Golf Tournament). Design and complete game-day programs and some department print materials needs. Manage department website and social media pages, including content, layout, posts, and updates. Assist with maintenance requests and athletic facility needs. Comply with all NCAA, conference and athletic department rules and regulations; compile and report statistics as required by NCAA and RMAC. Work irregular hours, to include days, nights, weekends, holidays and possible travel, as needed. Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Master's degree is preferred. One to two years of related experience. Experience with media relations, NCAA compliance, game operations, Sidearm Sports website, stretch internet video production, Stat Crew statistics package, and live stats. Proven leadership, public relations, and communication skills. Strong communication skills (written and verbal). Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office suite, InDesign, Photoshop and the ability to learn new software programs. Able to work independently and in a team-oriented environment while demonstrating high ethical standards. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and proven organizational skills.
