Pfeiffer University, a USA South Division III Conference, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Head Women’s Swim Coach.
The Head Swim Coach will be responsible for all aspects of planning, developing and coaching the women’s swim team within the guidelines of the USA South Athletic Conference and NCAA DIII rules and regulations. Provide leadership and instruction in personal and athletic development of student athletes at Pfeiffer University.
Duties and Responsibilities: •Promote the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletics program; to include adhering to all departmental policies and procedures, as well as the rules and regulations of the University, the Conference and the NCAA; •Plan, organize, direct, and lead operations for the sports program including budgeting, traveling, purchasing and facility usage; •Determine fiscal requirements and prepare budgetary recommendations; monitor, verify and reconcile expenditures of budgeted funds; •Plan, organize, and schedule season competition to be approved by the Sports Administrator assigned to that team; •Oversee preparation for team travel and competition; •Implementation of a recruiting program that is consistent with University, Conference and NCAA rules while maintaining a roster of no less than 20 female swimmers; •Screen and evaluate athletic qualifications of prospective student-athletes; coordinate with University Admissions Office; •Oversee daily practice of players to instruct them in areas of deficiency; •Attend all swim practice sessions; •Maintain team-conditioning manual as pertaining to NCAA Compliance standards; •Analyze meet and individual statistics for team performance; •Develop appropriate tracking of and maintain information regarding the scholastic performance of student-athletes; •Counsel team members in academic, disciplinary and personal matters, consult with Sport Administrator for resolution of problems as required; •Oversee the effective maintenance of pool; •Train and supervise lifeguards; •Act as liaison with outside events and high school swim programs that use University pool facilities; •Hiring and supervision of assistant coaching staff; •Directly responsible for mentoring assistant coaching staff and for providing opportunities for professional growth; •Ability to promote and maintain strong parental and community involvement; •Perform other duties as assigned by Athletic Director.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise student-athletes participating in the swimming program; direct supervision of assistant coaching staff. Works independently. Sports budget oversight. Determine appropriate disciplinary actions for student-athletes. Adhere to and enforce all policies and procedures of the department, University, NCAA and Conference Rules and regulations. Accountable for budgetary matters; i.e., expense accounts, recruiting, travel.
Working Conditions: The employee should be physically fit for the full range of physical activities. Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. The scope of the position frequently requires working weekends, as well as overnight, out-of-town travel, particularly during the swim season.
Bachelor’s degree required and minimum of three-years experience in coaching intercollegiate athletics or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s degree preferred. Lifeguard, First-Aid, CPR Certified.

Ability to lead and guide Division III student-athletes in area of specialty;
Knowledge and understanding of all aspects of swimming;
Knowledge of NCAA regulations and guidelines governing the recruitment and retention of student-athletes;
Knowledge of athletic recruitment methods and techniques;
Strong interpersonal and communications kills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community;
Ability to understand, follow and enforce safety procedures;
Ability to foster a cooperative environment;
Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments;
Knowledge and skill in the use of integrated software systems and Microsoft applications;
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
Effective planning and organizational skills;
Valid driver’s license with good driving record; must be insurable.
