The Department of Physical Education invites applicants for a temporary, non-tenure-track and coaching/faculty position with specific expertise in Strength and Conditioning. The incumbent will teach classes in the Physical Education Curriculum and serve as an Assistant Strength and conditioning Coach for the United States Naval Academy.
This position is for 1 year, with the possibility of a 1 year renewal, commencing as early as August 14, 2017. Annual salary range and benefits for this position are competitive and dependent on the incumbents’ background and experience. DUTIES OF THIS POSITION: Assist with teaching, administration and supervision of the Physical Education curriculum and activities relating to the physical mission, including training and development of the midshipmen as assigned. Serve as a USNA Assistant strength and Conditioning coach. Adhere to and enforce all policies and procedures of the Naval Academy, NAAAand NCAA. This position will assist the head strength and conditioning coach in all areas of running a competitive Division I strength and conditioning program, responsibilities could include, but are not limited to: Responsible for the year round physical and mental development of the student athletes(assigned teams) Design and implement proper, efficient, scientifically sound training programs for each team Design and implement individual training programs for individuals within each team Work with coaches to assess specific needs of the team or on an individual basis
Continue education to ensure growth within the program for improved training practices, and up to date injury reduction programs
Conduct workouts in a safe, efficient, organized manner and comply with NCAA regulations
Test student-athletes and monitor progress
Assist in the coordination of daily operations of Athletic weight rooms (Schedule, supervise, repair, cleaning, etc.)
Supervise safe use of equipment and advise/instruct students and student athletes on proper training techniques
Assist with maintaining equipment and update with new equipment.
Other duties as assigned by Head Physical Education and Head Strength Coach.
Maintain team discipline and morale.
Provide leadership and instruction in the personal and athletic development of student-athletes, to include counseling team members in academic, disciplinary, sportsmanship and personal matters, as appropriate.
Participate in the semester testing of the Brigade Physical Fitness Assessment.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of Physical Education, the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach and the Athletic Director.
QUALIFICATIONS: (Minimum requirements) Five (3) years of experience as a Strength and Conditioning coach at the NCAA Division 1 level. The position requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree, and preferred teaching experience in two or more of the following areas: Boxing, Wrestling, Marital Arts, Climbing, Kayaking and Weight Training. Must have National Strength and Conditioning Association certification or College Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association certification.
U.S. Citizenship is required.
Preference will be given to individuals with previous Military and Competitive Weight Lifting experience. Background in teaching Boxing is desirable.
