Union College, a highly selective liberal arts institution located in Schenectady, New York is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Director of Sports Information. Union College sponsors 26 intercollegiate sports, 24 in Division III within the Liberty League, with Ice Hockey competing in Division I ECAC Hockey.
Responsibilities Responsibilities for this 12-month position include assisting in the promoting and publicizing of the intercollegiate athletic teams. Additional duties include serving as the main publicist for the NCAA Division I men’s and women’s ice hockey programs, work with the NCAA Division III athletic teams, press release production, department publications including media guides, alumni newsletters, web site management, home statistical service, supervision of student assistants, media relations, radio and television broadcast relations, new media initiatives including live video, blogs, Twitter and Facebook, assistance with an intern position, assisting with the daily operation of the Sports Information department, and other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, journalism, or related field is required; three or more years experience in a collegiate athletic media relations or sports information office; effective communication (verbal and written), organization, and human relations skills; proficiency with computers and software applications including InDesign, knowledge of website technology and Stat Crew software. Weekends, evenings and travel required. Candidate must be able to work with a diverse group of individuals.
