Sports Medicine, Sports Medicine - Athletic Training
The Head Athletic Trainer is responsible for the care, prevention, management, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic related injuries and illnesses of Albany State University student-athletes for all 13 sport programs and cheerleading. The Head Athletic Trainer will work directly with sport administration, coaches, physicians, sports, dietitians, strength & conditioning personnel and university health center to deliver comprehensive healthcare and wellness services for Albany State University student-athletes. The Head Athletic Trainer will have a wide range of clinic and administrative responsibilities which include prevention, evaluation, management, treatment, and rehabilitation of student-athletes; pre-participation physicals; inventory management of supplies and equipment; maintaining medical records; completing required insurance claims; daily interaction, communication, and relationship building with coaching, strength and conditioning coaches, physicians, athletic training staff and athletics administration; attending team practices and events; In addition, the position is responsible for the supervision of one full-time Athletic Trainer and three Graduate Assistants.
•Serve as the primary medical contact and liaison between members of the coaching staff, student-athletes, parents, physicians, sports administration and others.
•Provide a high level of medical care, customer service, communication at all times to all entities.
•Clinical application and administration of comprehensive health care and wellness services for student-athletes as assigned to include the prevention, evaluation, management, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries and illnesses under the supervision of team physicians.
•Attend team practices, competitions, strength & conditioning sessions, and other team events as needed and/or directed within the established scope of coverage.
•Maintain a safe environment for student-athletes to include decision making involving the ability of student-athletes to safely return to practice or competition following injury and/or illness and communicate participation status with the appropriate personnel.
•Provide care based on standard physical therapy and/or athletic training sidelines as directed by a physician, and in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
•Provide written and/or verbal reports to athletic training staff, physicians, coaching personnel. Physicians, coaching personnel and other pertinent individuals as needed and/or requested.
•Oversee the recruitment, retention, and hiring of highly qualified personnel.
•Conduct the research and determination of current and future needs within the department then assist with the development of detailed proposals as directed.
•Medical documentation and record keeping.
•Counseling and educating of student-athletes.
•Coordination of medical coverage for all 13 sport programs and cheerleading.
•Oversee the university, conference and NCAA Substance Abuse Testing.
•Maintain the organization, administration, inventory, and staffing of athletic training facilities.
•Establish and maintain collaborative alliances with multiple stakeholders at Albany State University.
•Assist with special events or projects as requested.
•Contribute to the development of an environment for team members and student-athletes that is healthy, safe, equitable and culturally diverse.
•Adhere to all policies and procedures as defined by the NCAA, conference, University, University System of Georgia (USG) and Department of Intercollegiate Athletics (DIA).
•Adhere to the Code of Ethics and credentialing requirements of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) and the Georgia Board of Athletic Trainers.
•Participate in special projects, committees, or other initiatives as assigned.
•Represent Albany State University and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics at University, USG, Regional, and national conferences and/or meetings as assigned.
•Supervision of one full-time trainer and three (3) Graduate Assistants.
•Liaison to our contracted vendor for sports medicine, hospital, physician, insurance and other applicable entities.
•Travel with team (s) as needed.

Master’s Degree in athletic training, exercise science, sports or health care ammonization, or other related field preferred.
Minimum of three (3) years related experience in intercollegiate athletics or professional athletics required.
Certified Athletic Trainer by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) required.
Eligible for certification with the Georgia Board of Athletic Trainers
Working knowledge of electronic medical record system preferred
CPR/First Aid Instructor Preferred
Proficiency with manual therapy preferred
Ability to efficiently operate a personal computer and associated software (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
Ability to meet continuing education requirements established by the NATABOC and Georgia Board of Athletic Trainers.
Ability to follow policies and procedures set forth by Albany State University, USG, SIAC and Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
Strong evaluation, management and rehabilitation skills.
Excellent organizational and analytical skills with the ability to initiate, analyze, monitor and evaluate and advance strategic plans that support student-athletes and the mission of ASU and the Department of Intercollegiate.
Must be able to establish and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues, coaches, student-athletes, physicians and university health center.
Must be able to possess problem solving and critical thinking skills. Innovation and creativity, adaptability, imitative and stress tolerance to various situations in a fast pace work environment.
Must provide a high level of customer service.
Ability to work long hours, including early mornings, late nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, nontraditional work hours, extended periods of time without days off, travel, be on call as regular part of the position.

Demonstrated successful leadership and decision making skills
